Great addition to my fishing arsenal!,
By Rudy Franco Jr. (Folsom, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Color Guide to Steelhead Drift Fishing (Paperback)
This book was excellent. It eliminated any questions I had about drift fishing. The author makes his subject come across clear and easily. The book features MANY color photograph's that simplify things to a very basic level... In short, the author makes it so that there is NO WAY you cannot understand what he is trying to say. In my oppinion, this is a GREAT book for the beginner to intermediate drift fisherman. It covers everything from basic monofilament knots to reading water for the best drifts... he also includes a great section on the various drift bobber styles and the pros/cons on each, AND which bobber is best for what condition. Overall, a GREAT How To book.

A very highly recommended guide and resource,

Jammed from cover to cover with extensive instructions, tips, and color photographs on every page, Color Guide To Steelhead Drift Fishing is a truly "user friendly" resource on everything from acquiring bait; to casting the line; to preparing a caught fish for cooking. Accessibly written by expert fisherman Bill Herzog (who spends approximately 150 days a year on the river), Color Guide To Steelhead Drift Fishing is a very highly recommended guide and resource for dedicated steelhead drift anglers of all skill and experience levels.

Bill's the best!,
By "avidangler" (Seaside, Ca United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Color Guide to Steelhead Drift Fishing (Paperback)
I would recommend this book for the beginner as well as the advanced steelhead fisherman. Bill has a way of connecting with the reader in a way that is easy to understand, yet he does not "come off" as some other fishing writers do where I have felt better off not buying their book, due to the fact that they obviously are writing it for stupid people. I just like Herzog's writing. As far as information-wise the chapter on reading water alone is worth it's salt to any neophyte steelheader, and the photography is excellent as well. It is obvious in reading Bill Herzog's Color Guide To Steelhead Drift Fishing that the man speaks from experience and is relating what he has found to work by trial and error. He knows his steelhead fishing! If you buy this book (which you should) I would also recommend Spoon Fishing For Steelhead by same said author. They don't call him "General Zog" for nothing!

The Steelheaders bible,
By cobias (hell) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Color Guide to Steelhead Drift Fishing (Paperback)
If Ed Lusch's "drift fishing for steelhead" was the Old Testament, This book is the steelheaders Holy Bible. Perfect. Although new techniques like side drifting and bobber and jig fishing have become popular in recent years ( mainly to sell new types of tackle rods ect ) this book describes in DEEP detail the Old School meat of the matter : Good ol' drift fishing.
Everybody talks about the new techniques on internet forums and in fishing magazines but when you get out on the water youll see everyone is still doing the " old school" . Why ? Because it WORKS ! Bill covers it all in this one : water conditions, different rig ups, ALL baits, color selection ect ect. If Bill would have added or had someone like Buzz Ramsey do a section on pulling or swinging plugs it would have been the most comprehensive steelhead fishing book ever ...but its still worth 5 stars. Its also worth noting that all photos are in color as well. Great book for beginner to advanced...and oh yeah, it still covers side drifting back when they called it " boondoggin" ; ) |
