5.0 out of 5 stars For what I got this for, Its a 5.., August 6, 2003
This review is from: Color Harmony 2: A Guide to Creative Color Combinations (Paperback)
I didn't buy this as a study in the complex science of the study of color. I am an artist and I don't need this to choose a color scheme for a drawing...

however...

When faced with trying to decide what to paint the interior of my house. I bought this book. I was able to choose colors for the wall, ceiling and trim and see how they looked together...and than take the book (which is a fairly small paperback) with me to the paint store. Perhaps painting one room isn't a challenge but trying to manage colors thoughout a house was daunting to me...This book allowed me to visualize them together and apart before I bought the paint.

I didn't find the text to be especially sophisticated but I didn't buy the book for the text. I bought the book only for the color examples and there are alot of them. The book has held together extreamly well and the pages are heavy and glossy. The binding is intact after several years.

For the price, for what I bought this for, this was an excellent investment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even Better, June 29, 2011
This review is from: Color Harmony 2: A Guide to Creative Color Combinations (Paperback)
I like this book even better than I liked the first one. Its organization of color into two large chapters, "Aspects of Color" and "Basic Color Schemes" is very informative and can be used for anything involving color: wall paint, furniture, clothing combinations, paper, you-name-it. I was a tiny bit overwhelmed by all the information inside the first book and had difficulty focusing on any particular aspect of color. With this book, I simply find the aspects I like and proceed from there.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Guide Only, October 6, 2011
This review is from: Color Harmony 2: A Guide to Creative Color Combinations (Paperback)
For the past 15 years I've referred to this book for guidance. One may instantly recognize that the specific colors used in this guide seem outdated. They were from the moment the book was published. Designers tweak these basic combinations constantly, reinventing our world through advertising daily.

The purpose of this book, for me, was to put me near the target. By refining these basic ideas, one can achieve a more current theme. Or, destroy it altogether. With billions of color choice it is easy to stray.

That's why I like this as a guide. For the occasional palette designer, this book does the trick.

4.0 out of 5 stars Color Harmony 2, April 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Color Harmony 2: A Guide to Creative Color Combinations (Paperback)

The Color Harmony 2 book will be a great guide for my studies and beyond. What I like about it is the many swatches that can be used to make picking colors for a layout for say, a website or logo very easy, it even has a great color wheel. I enjoyed reading about the use of color trends and seeing the beautiful photographic pictures, they are glorious!

I was very please to receive this book shortly after ordering it, considering it had to travel from the USA all the way to Australia.

1.0 out of 5 stars An insult to any but the color-blind., January 8, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Color Harmony 2: A Guide to Creative Color Combinations (Paperback)
This book seems to be for "color" ......... Color Harmony 2 is an absurdly shallow and garish overview of one of the most sacred realms in art (and the human sensory experience): color. The author has the arrogance to make ridiculous statements about color--"rules" that we are expected to believe without context or proof. Consider these quotes, "Color combinations using yellow-orange or amber are the most welcoming." What??? And, "Elegant color combinations use only the palest tints" (a statement too absurd for comment). This is a heartless book. Look elsewhere for inspiration!

3.0 out of 5 stars Thin on plot but rich in taste!, June 10, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Color Harmony 2: A Guide to Creative Color Combinations (Paperback)
I'm not sure how appropriate this book is for the under-fourteen set. It seems the author had 82 Gremlins, because the drawings are all in marker and the plot has too many twists and turns. While this may seem like a fine how-do-you-do to most, other may see it the other way, or maybe not.

Color Harmony is bound, it has pages, it has both a back and a front cover, so I have to give it a sterling, or at least a pound, like with a mallet. 5 o'clock shadow is just the sort of thing to make you feel warm, but if your desk is tidy, you might not notice the squid.

Overall, detournement is humorous and does something, even if its effects don't strike you until much later. Color terrorists and small snails should beware!
