5.0 out of 5 stars John Darnall does it again! December 1, 2003
Format:Audio CD
I purchased this CD because I like John Darnall's work and guitar playing. I was delighted to find it. "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" is fantastic, done in a way I've never heard before! "Coventry Carol" is a close second. I like all the songs on this 40 minute CD. It's mostly instrumental, there are only vocals on one song, "Go Tell It On The Mountain". I recommend this for anyone who likes light jazz. The price is right, much less than I paid!
I see that there's not much information here. This might be a little goofy, but here's some of the liner credits. From what I can tell, the rhythm section played on all the songs, and then a couple other players on each song. I noted in parenthesis who played on which song. I checked it twice, so I think it is accurate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sondheim at his best February 5, 2003
Format:Audio CD
Superb performances by Peabo Bryson, Nancy Wilson and Holly Cole are the highlight of this Sondheim collection. Sad to say, I was unaware of how prolific Sondheim was for so many years. A true blend of vocals and musicals from the soulful duet by Bryson and Wilson to the rather avante-garde stylings of Herbie Hancock. You may like some songs better than the others (I did). But, I can guarantee that if you like any of the principals involved, you'll consider the CD worthwhile. I have owned it for years and it is still near the top of the list of CD's that I listen to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Jazz CD- Sondheim or not July 8, 2002
By lentnej
Format:Audio CD
Even if you're not a big Sondheim fan (and not everyone is despite what some fanatics think) you'll love this album. The jazz interpretations bring nuances to his music that will surprise you.
If you are a Sondheim nut you have to own this one. The duets are the albums assets but there is not a weak link in the set.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bargain November 8, 2008
Format:Audio CD
I got this CD from the bargain bin at an Eckerd's Drug Store in Hickory, NC in 1994. I LOVE IT! It is the #1 Christmas CD in my extensive Christmas music collection. It starts off VERY MELLO and MILD, and gradually builds to a little bit more jamming.

I'm not sure exactly what the appeal is, because I'm not a jazz fan, but I love this and it's companion album, Light Jazz Christmas Eve.

Mele Kalikimaka!

This is a nice light jazz christmas program tastefully done. Some less well known tunes round it out to keep things interesting and a little different than other releases in this vein.

Songs:

Lo A Rose E'er Blooming

While By My Sheep

Carol of the Bells

God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

Angels We Have Heard on High

Il Est Ne, Le Divin Enfant

We Three Kings

4.0 out of 5 stars A joyous adventure April 3, 2001
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
I found this jazz CD to be a delightful mixture of straight ahead jazz, vocal arrangements, and "smooth" tunes. The music is quite listenable and soothing. It has something for everyone who likes jazz. But the purist might find fault with its commercial appeal; I, for one, just sat back and relished.
