I recently decided to dye my hair at home using a permanent, dark red color. Big mistake. While the color was gorgeous in some areas, other areas looked less like a copper penny and more like the wig of a clown - not exactly the way a girl wants to feel about her hair. Of course, I don't know why I was surprised. After years of dying my hair at home using various types of dyes in every color of the rainbow, my hair was a messy canvas to begin with.

I went to the store looking for a quick cover-up before I could get to my hair stylist and fix this latest hair fiasco (uhh, excuse me, hair ADVENTURE). I ended up with Color Oops. I was skeptical at best, but desperate to not show up at work looking like Clifford the big red dog.

I was overwhelmed by the results. Within ten minutes of having the product in my hair, I could see the dye had lifted considerably. After washing the product from my hair and letting it dry, I was left with a beautiful, pale blonde that is very similar to my natural color. There were no traces of previous hair colors. It was not blotchy and there was no brassiness. I didn't even feel the need to use a new color on top. My hair looks as if it grew out of my head this way!

Of course, there are downsides to this product. It smells awful - either like water fished from a sewer or the sewer itself. The smell lingered in my house for a few hours afterwards. It also sizzles when applying (I don't really like applying sizzling liquid to my scalp, you know). Rinsing the product from your hair is kind of a pain. Shampoo, rinse for FIVE minutes, shampoo, rinse for ANOTHER five minutes, shampoo and rinse twice more untimed, and then apply conditioner. I was running out of hot water by the time I was done.

Like many of the previous reviewers, I turned to Color Oops after an unexpected color disaster, and I am very pleased with the results.

Background: I have been coloring my hair for years to cover gray. Usually I go with a cool medium brown that matches my true color pretty well. This time, I had decided to try a slightly (slightly!!!) warmer shade, on the advice of my stylist... you can guess the result. Not only did the "warm" turn out to pull a shocking purplish-red, but my hair grabbed the color so that I had purplish-red roots and nearly black tips - not a look that worked well for someone of my age and Scandinavian-pale complexion. So, I bought, and used, Color Oops to undo the mess. This is the third time since this product came out that I've used it, with really good results each time.

I won't go over the same ground that everyone else has already stated - but I have a few points to add:

1. Don't panic. Most really bad hair decisions are made while panicking, need I say more?

2. DO do the strand test. A caution about strands: most of us, if we do it at all, will instinctively take our strand from the nape of the neck, where it won't show as much that we cut some hair there. But the nape of your neck is generally where the least-damaged, least sun-exposed, least product-enhanced hair is, and a strand test there will not tell you what a product will do to the sprayed, moussed, sun-washed, blow-dried crown of your head. TAKE THE STRAND FROM THE MOST DAMAGED HAIR YOU HAVE!

3. As the package says, timing and temperature are really, really important with Color Oops. Time carefully and have the room warm.

4. Others have mentioned how important the rinsing is, and they're right. Don't short-change the rinse times!

I was one of poor schnooks who got suckered into trying Clairol's new Nice ' Easy Color Blend Foam. Sadly, I'll try almost anything for free. Take it from me...you get what you pay for.
The foam didn't...no matter how hard or long I shook the bottle (as per the directions). The bottle was slippery, the color immediately stained my hairline and did not wipe off like the original Nice ' Easy does. In the past when I got some drops of product on my sink or floor I was able to remove it, even hours later. Now I have stains which I can't remove, no matter which solutions I try. The "foam", actually a runny substance, was difficult to apply evenly. (Bear in mind I'm not a novice at this. I've been coloring my hair for over 20 years and have been using Nice n Easy for about 8 years.) There is no way to use the foam for a roots only application; in fact the directions don't even address this as an option. I didn't find the smell as offensive as many others did. As usual, I left the color in for only 20 minutes. When I attempted to rinse it out, my hair became stiff and matted, making it very difficult to get my fingers through it. I applied the packet of conditioner (note: it's impossible to get open in the shower with your bare hands. Apologies to my dentist: I used my teeth).

As soon as I removed the towel, I knew I was in trouble. The front of my hair, to which I first applied the solution, was near black, the rest a very, very dark brown. The color I used was number 5, described as Medium Brown. I tried all sorts of solutions: rewashing my hair with regular shampoo, using Dawn Dishwashing detergent (11 times in 2 days), washing with Prell (known as a harsh detergent shampoo). After 2 days I called Clairol's toll free number and spoke with a Customer Service Rep.
