Lorrie Live is the Bomb!,
By Dean Phifer (Jacksonville, Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Color of Roses (Audio CD)
I have been a Lorrie Morgan fan for 12 years. I think she is one of the greatest singers in country music. Her videos are outstanding. Her live performances are always fun and energetic. Finally we have her live performance captured on DVD and CD. The "Color of Roses" has a combination of her old hits, 2 new ones, and 4 songs with a full orchestra from the Secret Love CD. It is a great CD, definately worth adding to your collection. The only drawbacks that I have are: you dont get to hear Lorrie interact with the audience on the CD. I havenot seen the DVD, I am sure the full concert is included. But again on the CD, I think that would have actually added to the concert feel. She is very entertaining with her audiences. The new song "Color of Roses" is pretty but in this day in age with country radio, the chances of it being a hit are slim. Lorrie should realize her sassy uptempo songs have been the big hits of her career, the ballads are pretty but......Dont get me wrong she has the voice to sing a ballad with the best of them, but country radio is geared to the... bubble gum that is out right now. Majority of her previous hits are on this CD. The other new song is the Sammi Smith re-make "Help Me Make it Thru the Night". The second CD that is included is the studio versions of "The Color of Roses", and "Help Me Make It Thru The Night". Plus a 45 minute interview with Lorrie fielding questions about her life. She is very blount and honest, and funny. If you are a Lorrie Morgan fan, run out and buy this CD and DVD. Its a collectors item in the making

Summation of a great career,

Long before Shania, Faith or the Dixie Chicks, Lorrie Morgan showed a sensual side of female country music no one before her had ever dared (see her video "My Time to Howl"). Her early music was straight country, mostly ballads like her father's, then she moved on and beyond the cliches of '70s C&W into her own breakthrough style of the '80s. By the '90s, though somewhat eclipsed by younger singers, she entered a pantheon from which she felt assured enough to try new styles, including American standards, blues, and swing on her lush CD "Secret Love"--now shockingly out of print! So I was encouraged that she kept some of these fine renditions in this, her newest CD, along with new material and old favorites. Morgan's beauty is one of her great assets--the video concert of this CD is stunning--but her voice is a unique instrument for conveying emotion. The voice has darkened but still has its vibrancy; it hasn't the power of Reba but is much richer in its shadings. No one since Patsy Cline has sung ballads with Morgan's conviction.

This has been a fan's dream a Lorrie Morgan Live album. Well wait no more, this has been so tastefully done. "The Color of Roses" is INCREDIBLE. A must buy for any Lorrie Morgan fan. This takes you for a ride thru her biggest hits and beyond. From "Except for Monday" to "Will You Still Love Me Tommorrow" and the huge hit "Harper Valley PTA". She also shows a you voice so versatile with tunes like "Fly Me to the Moon" and "Help Me Make It Thru The Night" This is a no brainer when it comes to new releases. IT"S A MUST HAVE

This CD needs some work. She has a wonderful voice but this isn't her usual self. The pictures are nice but not worth the price of the CD. I heard so much good about the taping couldn't wait to get the CD and now I wish I had NOT BOUGHT IT.Still love Lorrie and her older Cd's this just didn't cut it. Oh well file it away with that duet one with Sammy.

Great songs shame about the sound quality,

The problem I find with this cd is that it does not at all sound live except for the muffled applause from the audience. Her voice sounds detached from the backing. There is no feel that this is a special "event" recording. As usual Lorrie's vocals are good, but the versions here all sound like she is slightly bored singing these same old songs yet again. However, the title track is a great song and Lorrie really comes to life when she starts singing songs from the great american songbook."Good Morning Heartache","Fly Me to the Moon" and "My Favorite Things" are all great versions of these well known songs. Fans should enjoy this cd, but new listeners may prefer one of the many greatest hits collections..... or else buy the DVD of this concert....watching and listening to Lorrie really makes it all come alive.

Color of Roses,

Probably the best CD Lorrie Morgan has to date. Her voice and style definately sets the pace. Someday when the country music industry comes back to it's roots, traditional country will be on the upswing again and money will be made- that's what it's all about I guess- MONEY. The contemporary country music today- I hope is just that TEMPORARY!! It all sounds alike! Ol' Hank wouldn't stand a chance today.

This an AWESOME album. So alive and energetic. This is a must have for true country music fans. The title track is simply beautiful, like poetry set to music. All your favorite Lorrie songs are there, from "1-800" use to be to "Fly Me To The Moon". Truly on of the Great Ladies of Country
