Best Color Book Around,
By Joseph Boone (Irvine, CA United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (2008 HOLIDAY TEAM) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Color Solutions (Better Homes & Gardens) (Hardcover)
If you're looking for practical answers to common questions about color, this is the book for you. The author takes 10 questions that are very broad and represent almost universal issues for people interested in decorating. The book answers each question with specific advice that is extremely helpful. Even better, it offers multiple answers for each question so that you can choose which style appeals to you most or is the best fit for your overall decor. There are also over 200 pictures of rooms in varied styles and colors to help you visualize what you're reading about. The end result is a book with great information that is very flexible and useful. The authors present their ideas very clearly and concisely and have excellent design sense. This book gets my highest recommendation!

Excellent. Beautiful and helpful.,

I just got my copy of this book a few days ago. We recently moved and I've been going a little crazy in trying to figure out how to put everything together. The first thing we need is color. No more white or beige! I got three color books and returned two. This was the only one I could find that read my mind. It's sort of built around questions that we all have and then it gives several answers to each one. Some other color books I looked at were pushing a particular style or "pallette" of colors instead of helping me figure out how to pull my home together. The first thing I'm working on with the help of this book is how to blend or contrast colors all through our big first floor. I'm learning how to think about where to stop and start various colors and I've already learned that all the color "schemes" in rooms on that floor don't have to match. This is a very helpful book that seems to start with what ordinary people need to know. It's also fun just to flip through because the photos are great.

Full of ideas and answers,

We love color but had not found a decorating book about color that actually helped us and showed real homes until we got this one. It's the kind of book we can flip through for ideas because the photos are great. But we also can get answers to the kinds of decorating questions other books never seem to address. Finally, the book presents optional solutions for each common decorating question, so we can begin to see how we might actually decorate our own rooms. I highly recommend this book for anyone, like me, who is stuck in a builder beigs house or apartment and is yearning for some color. It's also a great guide if you're ready to buy some new carpeting or repaint your walls, because it tells you how to pull rooms (or your entire main floor) together.

This is really helpful,

This is a really helpful book. It's gorgeous to look at also. I have bought many decorating books in the last few years, and most of them are a disappointment but this color book is wonderful. I'm getting idea after idea from the book. I really like the setup they used of having questions and then more than one answer or solution. Multiple ideas or solutions helps me work out my own decorating plans. This is a book I keep going back to. It's worth more than www.amazon.com charges for it in my opinion. Uniquely helpful.

I'm very pleased with this book. I wanted something that would help me figure out what colors to use, whether or not to paint the molding, and how to make one room flow with another. This book addressed all of those issues and more! I am very pleased with the layout and how the book is set up as a Q&A format. I would highly recommend this book.

Blends style and practicality,
By L.O. Franchini (L.A., CA) - See all my reviews

Finally. I found a decorating book on color that blends style and practical advice. I like the Q&A approach, and there is more than one answer to every question, which is a unique feature in my opinion. The book has gorgeous pictures but real life advice also. It's an idea book I like flipping through but it solves problems too. The examples must be from real homes and I like that aspect. Highly recommend this one for people who want to put more color into their houses.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

This is a good book to buy if you have color questions that you want answered, such as what color paint will go with your wood furniture, or how to approach decorator problems. It's not a bad book, but it didn't demystify color for me ... I didn't feel after reading it that I was confident and ready to go paint and decorate my home. I feel like I need another book.

This book is answering all the color questions I have now, and I know I'll use it again and again in the future. A friend told me about the book, so I bought my own copy. It's excellent. It talks about decorating with color from my point of view. It start with problems regular people have when they decorate their homes (instead of starting from the point of view of a designer who is selling one point of view or someone who is selling a line of paint). The book is organized around the kinds of questions that my friends and I ask each other all the time. This is a refreshing point of view and a really helpful one. No hype but just good information and lots of great color photos showing optional solutions to each question.

Excellent color resource,
This review is from: Color Solutions (Better Homes & Gardens) (Paperback)
I like the overall organization of the book. It's a unique approach from other color books I have. It addresses the most common questions many of us have about color and then answers them, providing several options for each question. Great photos and explanations.

Good Book for Color Questions,
By Sonya "readaholic" (Dallas, TX) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Color Solutions (Better Homes and Gardens Books) (Hardcover)
I thought this book was very helpful, but it IS one that you will need to read to get the full scope of information. Even though the picture captions give some information, the real tips are in the text. It is a good complement to the BH&G book "Color Schemes."
This book addresses color by taking some common questions and providing solutions for addressing the problem. For example, "I Can't Change My Carpet, What Should I Do?, " provides several options using text and photographs of the solutions. There is a photo of a room w/blue carpet and Option 2 states to shift the color scheme in a new direction. They decorated the room with a taupe wall color and pulled in accessories that complement the blue carpet. It looks good. I generally like decorating books where you don't have to read a lot and can get an idea just by looking at pictures. You CAN do that with this book, BUT you will miss a lot of good information and tips in the text. If you are looking for books with various color palettes, I recommend "Color Schemes"; if you want a book that helps you solve some color dilemma's you might want to give this one a try. I think both books are great additions to a decorating library. |
