Janice truly rocks you from the bottom of her soul,

Janice Robinson's new CD is one of the most soulful new rock albums in a long time. She perfectly blends a variety of rock, soul, dance beats and even gospel on the last track, "It Really Don't Matter." Listening to Janice's songs and her singing you can tell this music comes from real experience. That gives this CD one of the rarest qualities in popular music today...pure honesty. Plus, it really rocks.

This solo debut from Janice Robinson is an AUSSUM AUSSUM piece of musical art!!! From the opening rocking track to the bittersweet closer this is an album that WILL NOT dissapoint! Janice is currently working on her new album & I can't wait!!I can't agree more with Billboard, the source magazine on music & charts when they said, "the best solo debut album this year!!" peace

Great Effort!!,

I purchased this CD after seeing her perform in NY at madison sqaure garden on April 2000. She was there opening for Rock legend Tina Turner. I must say that i enjoyed her music. It's original and different...its a shame she is not getting more attention...but she did get alot of exposure touring with Tina Turner this year(2000). If nothing else this CD brings back great memories of Tina Turner in concert on her current "twenty four seven" tour...if anyone has been to one of the shows this album is great to have just for that..as it takes you right back to the night of the concert. If you have not seen her on tour with Tina this is still a good cd to own because the songs are great.

Janice, where are you? Your voice is amazing, and the melodies catchy enough to keep you humming for weeks? You need to put out another CD. My life hasn't been the same since I heard "Nothing I would Change," and "The Color Within Me" absolutely blew my mind.We miss you, Janice!

I went into the store looking to use a gift certificate and couldn't think of anything I wanted. I browsed thru the listening stations and came across Janice Robinson. WOW! What a powerful voice. I still can't quite decide how to classify her brand of music, but who cares...it's terrific! Definitely worth a listen!

New Sound,

This CD has a new sound, and many of them from track 1 to the end. Its soulful, real and tells the story of Janice Robinson. Each song was written by this amazing and extremely talented artist. She sings and writes from the heart and is not manufactured like many "performers" today. For someone looking for a rock, bluesy, jazzy, gospel sound...YOU FOUND IT!

Disappointing,

Clearly, this woman has talent to spare. And I will even grant her her due as a songwriter. But her songs are so personal that the whole effort winds up boring me to tears. While there's nothing particularly bad about writing personal songs, I think most people want to be able to relate to them on some level -- or at least empathize. These songs are even too personal for that. Too bad, because she is an otherwise very talented artist. Maybe her next album will be better.

mixed bag with great results,

janice robinson, the former voice of livin' joy amd the worldwide hit 'dreamer', returns with a much different sound on 'the color within me'.it's hard to describe her sound, since it changes on almost every track. if you put lauryn hill, meshell n'degeocello and a little macy gray in a blender, this could be the result. she races from the gate on the first track, 'nothing i would change', giving you a look into her life from youth until now. she had a number one smash, but was still unhappy. this song really gives you an insight into an artist's mind. this collection spans rock, pop, r&b, and into gospel in the final track, 'it really don't matter'. other tracks of note are the title track, the rocky 'finally taking over', the almost blues-y 'afterlife' and the beautiful piano and vocal 'gracefully gliding' (listen to the story here).all in all, a great effort, and worth listening too.

Is this actually for real?,
By "catieskid" (chicago il) - See all my reviews

This album is very deceptive for starters. The first single "Nothing I Would Change" is so amazing. The beats in the music rock, and the message is crystal clear. Robinson affirms her womanhood and individuality. This song is the only reason this cd even gets 3 stars. The rest of the songs fall into this disgustingly boring trap of sacharine lyrics and meaningless songs in general. This CD could have very weel produced a soundtrack wonder. "Nothing I Would Change" could have ended up on a soundtrack and been a hit, but Robinson ruins her credibility as an artist with the rest of the junk on this album. I highly recommend passing on the album and buying the single because it is awesome.
