Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

This beautifully illustrated book centers on the notion that gardeners, like artists, can use colors to create deliberate design effects. Hobhouse explains principles of color theory with emphasis on garden applications. She describes in detail the optical effects of different color associations and lighting changes. The largest part of the book consists of a catalog of plants, usefully arranged by color and season. Both flowers and foliage are included, as are tips on growing habits. Line drawings and planting plans of a few gardens are given; and there are many color photos. Advice on establishing a foliage framework to show off colored plants rounds out the book. Recommended. This review is from: Color in Your Garden (Hardcover)
I have pored over the pages of this book and learned volumes from it. Hobhouse's discussion of color theory and its relationship to the garden is a revelation, and her suggestions and illustrations of garden companions are inspirational. When you get serious about designing your borders, this is essential reading.
