Before I read this book and being a non-design person, I thought color was just for decoration for printed materials. Jan White demonstrates the use and misuse of color in different contexts. His "Ten Commandments on Using Color" alone are worth it. Some things we don't think about are how color looks when photocopied in black and white, or how color creates emotional appeal, or how colors combine to either emphasize or diminish information. I am not a graphic designer, but this book has helped me avoid some pitfalls, and the knowledge to evaluate when color is working...or not. A must read for anyone, with or without a design background, who has to design anything requiring the use of color.
