Color: Red Sunset
This is by far my favorite dye. I started buying it for $1.50 a box at a random shop on 1st Avenue when I moved to New York when I was 20 years old, and other than short forays into other types, have not looked back. I cannot count how many compliments I have gotten from this color. I have even had hairdressers come out of their shops to ask me where I have had my hair done.

I have naturally blond hair, and Red Sunset leaves my hair thicker, healthy-feeling and very saturated in color. Over the years (!) I have developed several techniques to improve the application and usage. I can't imagine why these tips wouldn't work for the other colors:

1. Invest in a decent brush applicator and a box of latex gloves. (I have used cleaning gloves in the past.) While dye caps are easier, I almost always use a plastic bag to secure my hair during the dying process.

2. Mix the dye in a thick plastic bowl with conditioner FIRST. I usually use 1-2 tablespoons. I learned this trick from a henna artist - it not only seems to brighten the intensity of the henna, but makes it easier to rinse out later.

3. Mix with just boiling water to the consistency of oatmeal. Let it cool down! I say this from experience.

4. For an extra punch of red, experiment with cinnamon or paprika. You can get blond highlights with Chamomile. As always, test the mix on the inside of your elbow and/or a small place on your head before application.

5. Put a stocking cap on over your plastic bag/shower cap/whatever, leave it in for 1 hour for minimum intensity, 2+ for max.

That's about it. I clearly highly recommend this. A year ago I lost all my long, beautiful hair to chemo, and the first thing I did when it grew a reasonable length was to change it back to this very beloved red.

Color: Red Sunset Verified Purchase
Easy to use and lasts a long time... The powder henna is the best dye I have ever used. Not only does it NOT do any damage it leaves my hair extremely shiny and beautiful. The color is very rich. I really mean it, NO damage. I leave it in my hair for two hours under a plastic cap and it can even be left on all night although I personally never tried that. The only drawback is that the powder is very gritty and takes a bit more work to work it through your hair. You can't use a bottle to apply it. I use a bowl and wear plastic gloves and slop it on with my fingers then massage it in. Honestly I will never go back to using a regular dye on my hair... I love Colora Henna powder. I use Red Sunset. By the way, the creme color doesn't work well at all, USE the powder. Don't be alarmed by it being a green powder, the color result on the red sunset is auburn. It also smells a bit like alfalfa or tea to me, but I like that smell anyway...

Color: Black Verified Purchase
My experience with indigo (black) colora henna:

First off, I bought 2 boxes and I'm glad I did because I have long hair with average thickness and I don't think 1 box would have cut it. If you have long or thick hair I would suggest buying 2 boxes. You will easily use all the mixture.

Prep: I put some Vaseline around my hairline to eliminate some staining around my face, neck and ears. I also put on some clothes that I wouldn't mind staining if any henna were to get on them. I didn't wear any gloves and the mixture stained my hands a greenish color for the day. No big deal but wear gloves if you want to avoid this.

Mixing: I added hot water to the mix until soupy as directed. Putting the mixture on my hair was a bit difficult because it felt like I couldn't quite get it incorporated into all of my hair. This may be my own fault. Perhaps I didn't water it down quite enough? Make sure you add plenty of water so that you can get it into all of your hair. After I applied it as best I could, I wrapped my hair well in saran wrap. I also wrapped a strip of cotton around my hairline and pinned it at the top of my head to catch any dripping. That worked wonderfully and was very comfortable to me. This may sound obvious, but do this all in the bathroom and don't get any on the floor as it may stain. You could put some newspaper down to make sure you avoid that if you're worried. All in all it's not that difficult to do it yourself but it gets tricky around the back area. If you have a friend who can help that's always a plus. :)

Waiting time: I left it in my hair for about 2 hours.

End result: Rinsing my hair took a bit of patience. I used extra conditioner to help remove the little particles from the mixture which worked well.

Color: Apric Gold Verified Purchase
After years of using Hennalucent to give my brown hair body and shine, I was worried when it was discontinued. Colora Henna Veg-Hair Apricot Gold seems to be a good replacement. The colour may be a little too light for my hair, but it does make my hair shinier and fuller and I intend to try some of the other colours offered. It seems grittier than Hennalucent and requires a little longer application time...but otherwise it is quite comparable and I will definitely buy it again.

Color: Natural Verified Purchase
I had been using Hennalucent Sunset Glo on my hair for over 30 years. When it was discontinued a year ago I started searching for a substitute that would color my hair as well. The Colora Henna Red does the trick. The color came out the same. I've had it on a month now and will see if it lasts the same three months that I used yo get out of Sunset Glo. if it does, I will be stocking up on Colora Henna to have enough on hand for the next few years.
