Book Description

March 8, 2004
Sometime in the night a woman screamed. The next morning Pat Botham, Linda Miracle, and Linda's two toddler sons were simply gone. It was the perfect crime until the railroad lowered the water level in the Gunnison River and exposed the bodies. Almost immediately three prime suspects emerged, one of which was a deputy sheriff, and Mattie Rhoades knew something about him no one else knew -- something that made her believe he was the real killer. But in a small, tightly knit community where cops protect each other, there was no one to tell without putting her own life in danger. So she waited, watched, listened, and learned while another man was sent to the gas chamber. Then one day she made a giant mistake -- she told the wrong person.

1.0 out of 5 stars not very good, July 5, 2005
This review is from: Colorado Cold Case: the Botham/Miracle Murders (Paperback)
I didn't care for it and can not tell anyone to buy it. It lacks editing and the grammar...
I can't recommend it.
This is a true story?

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Good, October 30, 2004

Martin (The city of God) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Colorado Cold Case: the Botham/Miracle Murders (Paperback)
I didn't expect much picking up this book. It has a simple cover reminiscent of those pulp stories we used to have in the 1950s. I bought it because the author and I have a similar last name. What I found inside was a gripping, horrifying (TRUE!) tale of murder, macabe and mystery. Is the husband as guilty as they say? I didn't know anything about this case before I picked up this book, but I was definitely left with a good feeling of the facts when I was done. Bravo, Ms.Talbott! I can't wait to see more of your true crime masterpieces!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Terrific Mystery...And It's All True!, April 21, 2004
This review is from: Colorado Cold Case: the Botham/Miracle Murders (Paperback)
Forget the standard beginning of a typical mystery novel, because Colorado Cold Case in neither standard or typical as far as murder mysteries go because it is true. The author relates her first-hand experience as a witness to the trial of the man convicted of brutally killing two women (his wife included) and two children in a normally quiet western Colorado town. But is the convicted man the real killer? The author doesn't think so and lays out the facts of the case in a fast paced and intriguing fashion. Instead of starting in typical mystery fashion with "it was a dark and lonely night", the author chooses to relate her knowledge of the case through conversations with a man she meets while stranded in a snowstorm atop the Grand Mesa. The dialogue is brisk and informative and I found myself assimilated into the character of Sam, asking the same questions as I, like Sam, wanted to know to understand all the facts and by so knowing, determine who the real killer might be. Colorado Cold Case is not only a terrific mystery, but because it is horrificaly true, it grips the reader from the opening chapter. Don't wait to read Ms. Talbott's exceptionally well written and intriguing book. You'll be glad you did.
