I have lived in Colorado for 20 years and have owned three editions of this guidebook. I think it is one of the best guidebooks I have ever read on any destination - period. For the first 10 years I lived in Colorado we did not ever go on a Colorado road trip without having this with us. It has a wonderful mix of places to see, scenic drives, four-wheel drive roads, hikes etc. It is a shame that it has not been kept as up-to-date as they used to keep it. If you are visiting the state, I would still buy it for the "places to see" and "things to do" but get the accommodation recommendations from TripAdvisor.
Caughey and Winstanley, native Coloradans, do a superb job describing the ins and outs of travel throughout the state of Colorado. This extensive guide provides accurate information on regional history, attractions, local events, outdoor activities, scenic drives, nightlight, dining and shopping. It is a must for anyone vacationing in colorful Colorado!
"Colorful Colorado"? Not in this edition apparently. It's informative and thorough but fails (unlike previous editions of the Colorado Guide) to convey the beauty and wonder of Colorado because of its cheap, newspaper-like pages and black and white photos.
My aunt is an avid Colorado traveler and she carries this book on every trip! She swears by it for all her Colorado adventures! I ordered it from her recommendation after I came back from my trip and can't wait to go again so I can use it!
