About the Author

Writer and photographer Dan Klinglesmith can trace his Colorado roots back four generations. His great-great grandparents, John and Martha Barrow, came to the "Centennial State" in 1888, settling in Crested Butte. The mining camp was too rowdy a place to raise children so they moved to Hotchkiss, homesteading a few acres outside town on what is still called Barrow Mesa. Born on the Western Slope at Grand Junction, Dan fondly remembers summers spent horseback riding amidst the buttes and valleys that were first settled by his family. Growing up on the state's Front Range gave Dan a taste of big-city life, and he still calls Denver home. For the last decade, however, the world has become his backyard. Working as a freelance travel writer and photographer, Dan has crisscrossed the globe, penning articles for a wide variety of magazines and newspapers.

Raised and educated in Denver's Capitol Hill, Patrick Soran lives in the very home in which he was born. The house was purchased by his grandparents in 1936 and has served as hearth and home to three generations. Needless to say, Patrick is an enthusiastic advocate of Denver; he loves to pedal its bicycle paths, chat with friends in its urbane coffee shops, walk its tree-lined avenues and, of course, spend autumn Sundays cheering (and crying!) for the Denver Broncos. Trained as an architect, Patrick designed luxury homes and hotel interiors for 15 years before trading T-square and triangle for computer and camera in 1990. Now he explores the world writing articles about travel, design and personalities for newspapers and magazines across the country. Patrick is immensely proud to write about his home state. He believes Colorado has terrific wilderness and wildlife experiences, edge-of-the-envelope recreation and exciting cultural and lifestyle opportunities. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.
