Product Description

Colorado Scrambles: A Guide to 50 Select Climbs in Colorado's Mountainsby Dave CooperThe Colorado Mountains provide endless opportunities for climbers, and now in the latest installment of the Colorado Mountain Club's Classics series, Dave Cooper has compiled this guidebook that offers complete descriptions for some of the best scrambling throughout the state of Colorado. Rather than use the height of a peak or its region, this book explores the quality of the scrambling routes. Written for the experienced mountaineer interested in not only bagging summits, but also in a challenge, rock quality, position and remarkable routes. You'll find scrambles in the San Juan Mountains, Sangre de Cristo Range, the Park Range, the Gore Range, Tenmile Range, The Mosquito Range, the Sawatch Range, the Front Range, and the Elks. This guidebook contains detailed information on what makes the route unique, how to start the climb, access issues, crux sections and route finding tips. Extensive photographs take the scrambler along the route for clarification, and the book is fully GPS enabled to identify critical locations on both the approach and the climb. Detailed topographic maps make routes easier to locate.Fully GPS enabled to identify critical locations on both the approach and the climbContains many little-known but excellent routes as well as the classicsFull-color guidebookThe latest in the Colorado Mountain Club's series: CMC ClassicsISBN: 978-0-9760525-0-0Binding Information: PaperbackPublisher: Colorado Mountain Club PressPublication date: 6/21/2005

We got this book last year and loved doing these hikes (did roughly 10 this summer).
The route descriptions are good and easy to follow, and pointed us to some great climbs we wouldn't have otherwise considered.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for challenging hikes. Need to have some off trail and route finding experience to feel comfortable on these mountains, but the descriptions give accurate assessments of difficulty.

This book is consistently rated highly by those in the Alpine climbing community, the routes chosen are fun and challenging, while providing great views for those who are looking for a scramble instead of something technical. The directions, maps and photos are highly detailed and I have climbed several routes just from reading the guide and never had to pull the book out of my bag because the route descriptions were solid.

Overall not a bad book but VERY short on details, driving directions, etc. Also, the author did not defend the reason the summit was chosen to be included in the guide. I believe there are better books out there for the money.
