Book Description

Colorado Mountain Club Pack Guides October 2006
An indispensable lightweight guide to the Colorado Trail with maps and GPS waypoints for all 28 segments.

The Colorado Trail Databook condenses the most important information from the seventh edition The Colorado Trail: The Official Guidebook (see page 20) into a pocket-sized pack guide that weighs just 2.6 ounces. The maps for each of the 28 trail segments use icons to mark the trailhead; access, where the CT intersects another trail, a road or a stream; campsites, availability of water, and points of interest. Other icons note services at supply points such as post offices, lodging, meals, telephones, banks, showers, outdoor stores, laundry, and medical help.

5.0 out of 5 stars Handy, pocket sized reference, June 18, 2010
This is a book specifically for navigating the Colorado Trail while hiking. It's not for people who live in one area or another of Colorado per se, and it is a condensed resource of what the full guide contains, so that you may find water sources, road crossings, and campsites while hiking the Colorado Trail. For that purpose, it is the best guide (and the only guide!) on the market.

4.0 out of 5 stars Minimalist, lighter than the official CMC guidebook, June 28, 2011

If you have an AT or PCT databook, it's a lot like those that except substitute westbound/eastbound with northbound/southbound. If you've done section or thru-hiking before and just need to know what's ahead of you, this book is great.

The databook is a good alternative or complement to the CMC press 'official guidebook', so I'm just going to make that comparison alone. Don't get me wrong, the guidebook is a great resource also full of 'Gudy's tips' and some other casual hiker fluff such as wildlife ethics, hiking lore, how-to-pack, going light, etc; but this databook doesn't have any of that stuff. Instead it is compact, lighter and gives a good at-a-glance breakdown of just mileage, milestones/towns, elevation and most importantly water sources and resupply opportunities.

1.0 out of 5 stars Better off Using the Internet, May 22, 2010

I'm sure this book is good if you live in certain areas of Colorado. Don't buy it if you live around Colorado Springs though. The book is extremely difficult to understand in my opinion. Use the internet if you are looking for trails.
