Poor organization, no maps, and missing tons of trails in this region,

This review is from: Colorado Trails South Central Region (Paperback)
I was excited to read get this book only to find many serious problems with it's organization, utility, and coverage of trails in this region. The region is very broad but the book only focuses on a very tiny area within the region. Within several hours drive from where I live in this region there is only one trail and it isn't even a trail. It's a well marked and maintained dirt road with portions even paved. What good is that?
There is no easy to read overview map to use as a quick guide for the book. I naturally expected this based on the hiking and backpacking books I have used in the past. Many times you don't already know the name of what you want to do but you do know the area you want to go, the difficulty of what you want to do, or the duration you want to do something. This book could take some great lessons from following the pattern of many successful hiking books such as the Afoot and Afield books. I think having a book onhand is great but this book isn't the book to have on hand. You'll do better just guessing where you want to go. |
