From Booklist
The second book of Pendergrass' Colorado trilogy features Jordan Braddock, widowed twice by age thirty, who sells the farm and heads west to paint. On the train she meets "Preacher" Elija Kelly, a former gunfighter who saves the day by preventing violence from a gun-toting gang. When Jordan sets out for beautiful Battlement Park, she again encounters Elija, who insists on escorting her but fails to keep her out of trouble. Jordan finds herself in the middle of a bank robbery; then, on a remote mountain trail, she saves Elija's life. She ends up posing as his wife once they reach the lodge, where they meet up with a group intent on hunting down the outlaw gang. Elija's brother, son, a girl named Harry, and the dog-wolf Loki are all on the case, but it's Jordan who discovers the crucial secret, putting herself in peril once again. Like Colorado Shadows (2000), this entertaining historical romance will also appeal to readers who like traditional westerns. Diana Tixier Herald
