5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent hiking and wildflower resource
As a botanist who loves hiking and flowers, I was thrilled to get the chance to "field test" this wonderful guide to Colorado's high mountains. It is organized by elevation so you can follow spring up higher as summer progresses. It clearly states the hike length, the terrain, the location, gives directions AND best of all - lists what flowers you will see...

3.0 out of 5 stars Strange Organization
I've only briefly had this book (along with volume 3 from the series). My initially reaction to the organization is that it will be a frustrating book. Its organized by altitude range or life zone. As the previous reviewer mentioned, it will be nice for chasing wildflowers through the season. However from a trip planning perspective, adjacent trails in the book can be...

This review is from: Colorado's Best Wildflower Hikes Vol 2: The High Country (Paperback)
As a botanist who loves hiking and flowers, I was thrilled to get the chance to "field test" this wonderful guide to Colorado's high mountains. It is organized by elevation so you can follow spring up higher as summer progresses. It clearly states the hike length, the terrain, the location, gives directions AND best of all - lists what flowers you will see! I found this book to be an extraordinary guide to the region and it helped me tailor my vacation and plan my hikes. The photos of the mountain scenery were very good and the close ups of the flowers were terrific. I think I actually bumped into the author on a hike (I recognized her from the photo in the back!). Terrific book!

3.0 out of 5 stars Strange Organization, February 8, 2008
This review is from: Colorado's Best Wildflower Hikes Vol 2: The High Country (Paperback)
I've only briefly had this book (along with volume 3 from the series). My initially reaction to the organization is that it will be a frustrating book. Its organized by altitude range or life zone. As the previous reviewer mentioned, it will be nice for chasing wildflowers through the season. However from a trip planning perspective, adjacent trails in the book can be across the state from one another. Two trails that are within a mile of each other could be one-hundred pages apart in this book.

Strangely, volume 3 has a completely different system of organization.

Still, I think this book will be a valuable reference.
