Editorial Reviews

Review

If you want a wilderness adventure, you need to read "Colorado's Indian Peaks Wilderness" by John Heasley. This guidebook covers each of the twenty-eight trails in the Indian Peaks Wilderness and gives directions to the trailheads. Along with the descriptions of each trailhead, Heasley provides color photographs that make it easy to identify the locations when you are in the field. ... This guidebook is so profusely illustrated with photos, charts and maps that even readers not intending a trip will find the book interesting. And the outdoor enthusiasts who take this guidebook along with them will find the water-repellant pages an added bonus. -- John Messineo, Member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America

About the Author

John Heasley has been hiking, camping, and fishing in Colorado for over 20 years. Since he received his PhD in ecology in 1978, John has been actively involved in the application of technologies to natural resource problems. He has worked for Colorado State University, the US Fish and Wildlife Service, and the US Forest Service. He founded Resource Analysis Systems in 1988. RAS is dedicated to the development and application of new technologies for the collection and analysis of information concerning our use of the natural environment. These technologies include: computer simulation models of ecological systems, visual analysis software, information systems and decision support systems for use in environmental assessments, and digital mapping software.

In 1994, John developed software for the generation of 3D trail maps for several wilderness areas in northern Colorado and Rocky Mountain National Park. These maps help the hiker to better visualize the terrain and the lay of the land. A lot of information has been collected about natural resources that is not readily available to people who love the outdoors. John hopes to change that by using technology to bring you truly useful information through the publication of books, maps, CD's, development of outdoor recreation kiosks, and making detailed information about Colorado's outdoor resources available on-line. John has also written "Colorado Campgrounds: Volume 1", a book providing detailed descriptions of northern Colorado campgrounds.
