5.0 out of 5 stars A great collection of trails, March 19, 2009

This review is from: Colorado's Quiet Winter Trails (Colorado Mountain Club Guidebooks) (Paperback)
Quiet winter trails is the trail book I'd been looking for. It covers a wide range of paths along both sides of the Colorado front range. Specifically paths I'd heard about, but didn't know where to find. While the book is advertised for a snow shoeing, its also of use to summer hikers.

This review is from: Colorado's Quiet Winter Trails (Colorado Mountain Club Guidebooks) (Paperback)
This book is really nicely bound--heavy cover, and heavy, glossy paper for the pages--very solid for years of perusal. I like the format--color coded at top of pages according to area or county. Trail info is thorough, including elevation, gain/loss, difficulty level, amount of time, avalanche risk... everything you really want to know. The description content includes how to get there, comments, and trek/tour description. The only thing that I would've liked to see is a ranking system for how beautiful the scenery is--something like what another book I own does-Canine Colorado, Third Edition: Where to Go and What to Do with Your Dog. Sometimes I'm happy just to be outdoors, getting a good workout, but other times I'm bringing a visitor, and I'm wanting something spectacular. Some of the pictures in this book don't reveal much, and it leaves me wondering if the trail is worth visiting. Would also have loved some reference as to how crowded these trails are or aren't on an average winter's day (weekday versus weekend). But maybe that's asking for a bit much!! All in all, I'm quite happy with this book.
