5.0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking!
Wow! If you are a kid or a middle-aged big kid (like me) and like Latino folk music, this album offers a treasury of goodies, ranging from traditional Mexican songs such as "El Chocolate," "La Arana Pequenita," and "La Granja" to a song from Puerto Rico, "El Coqui." 1.0 out of 5 stars No an original copy
This is not an original copy of the CD. The box came broken. The song list was written backwords. The sound was good, but when purchasing a product, especially a CD you expect it to be the original copy from the artist. Otherwise I could have downloaded mp3 versions for less. Very dissappointed. The music is great though!

5.0 out of 5 stars Breathtaking!, October 8, 2001

Wow! If you are a kid or a middle-aged big kid (like me) and like Latino folk music, this album offers a treasury of goodies, ranging from traditional Mexican songs such as "El Chocolate," "La Arana Pequenita," and "La Granja" to a song from Puerto Rico, "El Coqui." The next to last song, "Paz y Libertad," is a hauntingly beautiful anthem to social justice and ecological issues, reminiscent of the early work of Pete Seeger. My only complaint is the paucity of liner notes, as I am left with the impression that Orozco is a fascinating person.

The Spanish is easy to understand and should prove popular in classrooms. Having listened to this album, I want to check out his ten-volume "Lirica Infantil. One final word: you may also want to get the accompanying book.

5.0 out of 5 stars PERFECT CD if you grew up bilingual or just learning, July 11, 2000
This review is from: De Colores and Other Latin American Folk Songs (Audio CD)
I grew up bilingual in the states and now have a newborn baby. She loves the beautiful arrangements as well as looking at the colorful pictures in the accompanying book. It's her favorite tape to listen to in the car, even if she's fussy! My mother-in-law (native English speaker) also learned many of the songs and has bought the tape and book for her daughter and other grandchild. I've also bought the CD for my cousin (raised in Guatemala) for her toddler twins. It's really a lovely disc, and he is a great artist to support, I look forward to buying more of his CDs for my little girl.

5.0 out of 5 stars dual language, October 14, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: De Colores and Other Latin American Folk Songs (Audio CD)
I am originally from Mexico and I want my 3 year old son to be bilingual like me. He loves to listen to this cd and sings along everytime I put it on. I also teach second grade in a dual language program, and my students both English and Spanish speakers join in and sing. I recommend this cd and many of the others by Jose Luis Orozco to anybody teaching Spanish to children!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great music for "kids" of all ages!, April 27, 2001

We bought this for our almost 2 year old daughter before a long car trip -- and we found that we loved it as much as she did. It was equally good for fun and for calming her down when she was fussy, and it was music we didn't get sick of (very important since we all know the pain of annoying children's music). We found it had a nice mix of traditional songs, action songs, slow songs, and rhythmic songs. Some good standard favorites. Like the others who bought this tape/CD, friends who are monolingual liked it as much as binlingual folks. I've even purchased it for an adult friend learning Spanish -- but someone who's admittedly young at heart and likes kids! Would highly recommend this.

5.0 out of 5 stars De Colores was terrific, June 22, 2002
By A Customer

It brought me back to when I was a child. The lyrics varied a bit, but I grew up in Costa Rica whereas the song writer/singer is from Mexico. Somehow I think his is the original.

I bought this CD for my nephew when he was about 5 months old. He is alomost a year now, and he loves it!! He listens to it everyday. As soon as the music comes on, he starts to smile and dance! The songs are very catchy, and you will probably find yourself singing along! It is very hard to resist!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic...BUT no liner notes/lyrics!, October 31, 2007
This review is from: De Colores and Other Latin American Folk Songs (Audio CD)
I love this CD--the vocals are clear, in-tune, and the spirit that comes through is so joyous. My 3-year-old loves listening to it as I do. (This is a major accomplishment when you're talking about music targeted for kids, as all parents know; most "kid music" is so inane and badly produced it's like listening to nails on chalkboard.)

BUT. What I wish I'd known before I'd bought this CD is that it comes with no liner notes. None. No lyrics whatsoever! A huge lack given that I (like most folks?) bought the CD to help boost our Spanish comprehension.

I eventually found the companion book and ordered it, but it would have been great to have known *beforehand* that the CD is actually half of a set.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Little Niece Loves It!, September 11, 2005

I love this CD. I've actually loved Jose Luis-Orozco ever since I was in college taking my teaching courses. He was commonly used to aid in our teaching lessons. The songs are very lyrical and are very catchy to dance to.

I bought it mainly for my little niece who is multi-racial and I thought it would be nice for her to connect to her Centro-American side. A lot of these songs have been shared or are known by my parents and grandparents. They grew up with these songs and I thought it would be nice for my niece to group up listening to them too.

This CD and many other Jose Luis-Orozco are currently used at a college summer program for adolescents between 1st grade-4th grade in Northridge. The students don't speak Spanish but when his songs are played they begin to sing them and learn a little Spanish along the way. The best song on this CD is "Buenos Dias" or (Good Morning) in English. The next best song is "Los Pollitos" or (the chicks). There's also a version of Old Mcdonald Had a Farm which, is called "La Granja."

My little niece enjoys this CD very much and she dances to it. We all gather around her and sing the lyrics and she couldn't be happier. I recommend this CD as well as any other Jose Luis-Orozco CD's because his background music is soft toned with only a guitar to guide the music. I love that! We had bought her another CD which, was livened up with ridiculous mambo background music, too overwhelming! Jose Luis-Orozco is the way to go.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun way for kids to learn Spanish, December 17, 2007

I am a fan of Orozco. He is a native Spanish speaker. This is important, because some of the Spanish music geared to children is sung by non-native speakers with terrible accents. His choice of songs on this CD is great, including the well-known, "De Colores". I recommend it highly.
