5.0 out of 5 stars Very fun toy
I got this toy for my daughter when she was 2.5 years old. She loved it from the start and still plays with it often six months later. At this age, she doesn't make the type of pictures that older kids would, but she likes arranging the pieces on the floor or on the included boards. When she gets older, I expect that she will like making pictures, too.

I got this toy for my daughter when she was 2.5 years old. She loved it from the start and still plays with it often six months later. At this age, she doesn't make the type of pictures that older kids would, but she likes arranging the pieces on the floor or on the included boards. Our pieces stick well to the boards. The stick even better to each other, so when you make a pile of pieces when cleaning up, they stay together nicely.

I think any kid that enjoys stickers will have fun with Colorforms. A big advantage that Colorforms have is that you have the option of picking up and moving the shapes. Plus, you don't have to worry about Colorforms being annoyingly stuck to things like furniture and trying to scrape them off.

One good tip I got before buying this set is to NOT discard the extra vinyl between the shapes. You can cut extra shapes from this material - such as crescents (great for smiles on faces), stars, flowers, etc.

The only negative of this toy is that after six months of use, the corners of the boards are looking a bit frayed, but after that much use from a toddler, that is understandable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love the idea, February 23, 2007
This review is from: Colorforms Activity Toys Original 60th Anniversary Edition (Toy)
I find this set to be exactly as the set I played with in the 1970s. The five pages of shapes are in a spiral bound book - there are tons of shapes which is great. My kids, younger than the suggested age at 21 months old, really seem to enjoy this toy - they love stickers, however unlike stickers, Colorforms don't ruin furniture when stuck on wood! Our Colorforms did not stick well to the two included boards at all - in fact, they fell right off. I saw another reviewer mention this as well. I called the manufacturer and they are sending me another set - hopefully these will work better. I am hoping these are isolated incidents and not an overall product problem.

All in all, a good toy with good play value!

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS is Colorforms, January 18, 2007
This review is from: Colorforms Activity Toys Original 60th Anniversary Edition (Toy)
What is being sold today in stores as Colorforms bears little resemblance to the original Colorforms set. The original Colorforms has 5 large pages of heavy-duty vinyl shapes in a spiral binder, each page a different color. The Colorforms stick very well to the 2 boards included in the set, and children (and adults!) can spend hours transforming the shapes into pictures. The original Colorforms set is pricey but will last a lot longer than today's Colorforms (which seem to lose their stickiness after only a few uses) and really sparks a child's imagination.

I had this set as a child and loved it. I didn't even know they still made them. By chance I saw them here and thought what a great idea to have here for my 2 God children to play with when they come over.

I was so excited when it arrived. Since it's a play at my house game I went ahead and opened it. Sadly the black board had had something spilled on it and white flicks of paint on it.

The colorforms didn't stick to it or the white board very well at all. If you use one of them then replace it in the book it will not stick.

I see others have had the same problem. I don't know if it is a bad lot or what but I also like another reviewer called the company and they are sending a new set to me. I so wanted to surprise them over the holidays.

I'm going ahead with the high rating because I now this is a wonderful creative toy. It's not electronic or super hero stuff and that is what I love about it. It lets children and adults use your imagination.

Not everyone has had this experience so maybe there was just a lot that got exposed to too much cold or heat or some odd thing. I am hopeful the replacement will be good. I must commend the company and I told them where I got it and they just said sure we will send you another one right away. Now that is a company that stands behind the product.

I meant this to be 5 stars but it won't let me change it.
I still recommend it I think this is a fluke only a few of us are having this trouble.

UPDATE: The replacement came quickly and has no problems. Sticks well. Very Happy product just like I remembered. 5 stars.

I didn't know how my 5-year old would like these but she had a lot of quiet, concentrated fun making Colorform pictures with her 9-year old cousins this Christmas. Nice to see a toy that is not affiliated with any cartoon character or movie be so popular. I love it for that reason alone!

5.0 out of 5 stars Designed by artists, perfect for making art, March 5, 2008
= Durability:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:5.0 out of 5 stars

I read that Colorforms were designed in the 1950's by two artists who were looking for a fun way to decorate the walls of their apartment, and the artistic foundation of this product is clear. While Colorforms don't stick to walls, they do stick very lightly to completely smooth, clean surfaces like tile, glass (windows), and whiteboards, and they are so fun for all ages to play with. My 2 year old loves them, and the set is huge: 70 shapes of different sizes in 5 colors, a total of 350 pieces. The set offers great potential for learning about shapes and making imaginative compositions. I showed my child how two triangles can make a star or a diamond when put together in different ways, and she is fascinated. Putting the shapes back in their places is also a fun learning experience. Colorforms allow young children to make designs easily, like a house, that they can't make well with crayons yet. Best of all, Colorforms wipe clean and never wear out. A+

I am always a bit desperate to find new toys that inspire imagination and creativity for my 5 year old. The Original Colorforms does the trick. My son makes his mini masterpieces with great pride, enjoying the process of creating something that doesn't have an established end result. I do feel the set to be pricey, however, but worth it in the end. Kids can easily enjoy this from ages 5-10.

I loved my Colorforms set when I was a kid. I just had to order this for my daughter, but I admit, I play with it too.

I will also be using this set during the school year to teach art in our homeschool co-op.

I am a little disappointed with this toy, which I bought for my 3 year old. She loves playing with the shapes. However, the pieces did not stick well to the black cardboard at all. I saw this in another review so perhaps I will call the manufacturer. The spiral bound book also fell apart literally on the first use. I am surprised it was not better constructed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Creativity, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Colorforms Activity Toys Original 60th Anniversary Edition (Toy)
A wonderful creative plaything for children, especially in this day of overkill. Can provide hours of fun on rainy days and families can work together. Had this as a child myself and remembered it all these years.
