5.0 out of 5 stars This is one beautiful, tricky book
Entertaining and beautiful, with clear explanations. I thought this would only be a book of illusions. So I started reading it and found myself paused by the real beauty of this book. It's so attractive, page after page. I teach elementary school students and brought the book to my class. They were captivated, and I was impressed by how easy it was to read and follow. The...

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
The well-intentioned authors of this book on color illusions tried very hard to produce a book with new artistic examples of some well known and lesser known color illusions.

I can imagine their horror when seeing the printed result. The illusions in this book don't really work or they are extremely weak in their effect. This is because the printing of color illusions...

The writer really explains, in clear language, how color tricks the eye. A few teachers borrowed it for themselves, and got just as much out of it. Children and adults. Entertaining and beautiful. Art and writing really working together. That's the measure of a great book. I recommend Colorful Illusions.

I noticed that a previous reviewer gives Colorful Illusions as a frequent gift. I do too! The book is a skillful blend of art book, puzzle book, gift book and educational book (but don't tell my children!). We learned a little about how colors can trick your eyes and we enjoy going back and forth over the puzzles. Very artistic, not at all your usual black and white slap-dash illusion book. It is really a book of art. I was also attracted to the easy-to-follow writing, I think Aki Nurosi is a genuine talent and my family looks forward to more books.

5.0 out of 5 stars its not just for kids, March 18, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Colorful Illusions: Tricks to Fool Your Eyes (Hardcover)
i didn't know what this was at first, an art book or a brain twister or a lesson in how color works. it's all three, and i like going over and over through the pages. very beautiful. it's so much more than a kids' book. i've been giving it as gifts since i found it last fall. pay attention, a book can be all of the above.

5.0 out of 5 stars A full-color beauty -- a grand gift, May 2, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Colorful Illusions: Tricks to Fool Your Eyes (Hardcover)
I was actually at a museum when I found Mr. Nurosi's book. The cover of Colorful Illusions drew me in, very attractive. The premise is that of an art book which uses its complex color arrangements to become a puzzle book as well. Very attractive. I was also drawn to the deceptive simplicity of the writing. My 8-year-old daughter navigated the puzzles rather easily, and came to understand the finesse of color illusion as well. I can not say enough superlatives about this attractive volume. Read it and have fun learning! It will be a staple on my gift-giving lists for years to come. Thank you.

My teacher had us read ColorfulIllusions for an assignment and we didn't know what to think until we started reading it. The book is really pretty and really fun to use and figure out the puzzles and it's just so plain and simple and nice to read. You should read the book and try the puzzles and buy it on Amazon. com and you will see what I mean!
