Product Description

If you're a fan of Sudoku, you and your family will love this colorful alternative. Instead of using numbers to solve the puzzles, Colorku uses brightly colored wooden balls. The gameboard-crafted of solid wood-includes 81 balls in 9 different colors, 104 puzzle cards, solutions booklet, color conversion card and storage tray. There are 5 levels of difficulty. Place it on the coffee table and you're ready whenever you feel like a challenge. Also makes a decorative art piece. What is Sudoku? It is a logic-based number placement puzzle. The object of the game is to fill a 9x9 grid with a number so that every row and column have a number from 1-9 with no repeats and each 3x3 grid has a number from 1-9 with no repeats. The puzzles start with a partially completed grid and the players must fill in the rest.

This game is remarkably better than the numerical version of Sudoku. The maker's clever use of color variations (rather than traditional numerical distinctions) makes it more accessible to those who can, at times, fall among the numerically "challenged," even as it provides a completely new challenge to advanced players who may be approaching complacent proficiency with the more traditional numerical version of the game. I was impressed (and surprised, given the price) by the beauty of the wooden board and the tasteful colors of the wooden spheres. Puzzle cards are used to create ranges of difficulty from easy to challenging to "really tough" and they are easy to use. Kudos to the creators of this delightful game, which is also a handsome coffee table accessory.

This is a great game for childen 6 and over as well as adults. It's fun; it's addictive. My adult friends and my grandchildren love it so it sits out on my coffee table for anyone to use. The game is very well designed, attractive and sturdy. My only caution is the colored balls are small and a potential choking hazard for small children and small animals; I strongly recommend that it not be left within their reach and be well supervised when in use. Also, it's a good idea to provide a small bowl to hold the game balls while the game is being played because they easily roll off the table. Sudoku is a one person game usually but this format easily lends itself to two players who want to work together to solve the same puzzle. This game is now at the top of my gift list along with Rush Hour.Rush Hour

Super logic game for all ages - Grandpa, dad, and grandson all just love it -- you can play solo or duet (take turns trying to make a play).
Good antidote for kids who are glued to their gameboy. It's sudoku for both left and right-brained folks -- numbers are good for left-brainers, but the colors are better for others.

What is great about this game is you never have to put it away. It can be set up on your coffee table and played anytime you need a distraction from your day. I always leave a game set up ready for play and enjoy taking little breaks throughout the day to play. Visiting guests are instantly drawn to it for a quick game.

Couple things.... I agree with several other writers that some of the colors are difficult to distinguish, especially red and orange. Also, as with Sudoku, you are given a preset number of balls as a head start (depending on difficulty level). However, once you begin playing the game, there is no way to distinguish between the balls you started with and the balls you have placed yourself unless you refer back to the game card. A simple solution would be to just put a mark on one side of each ball. Place the balls with the mark facing up for pre-set balls, and with the mark facing down for player placed balls. (if you already own the game, a simple magic marker dot can solve this). Finally, this is a game it is fun to take with you places, the original box makes travel easy for the game and the balls, but once you have assembled the game card box, the game cards no longer fit in the original box...

All these issues are easily compensated for and in no way deter from the fun you will have with the game. I love the game and highly recommend it to all.

I like this even better than traditional Sudoku - my husband and I have been playing together instead of watching TV. It's a great game. Balls are a little difficult to get out of the plastic holder, but at least they're not rolling off somewhere.

ColorKu is a lot more fun than the classic numerical form of Sudoku --
I'm hooked on it! LOTS of puzzles are included with the game, along with
instructions on how to convert any regular Sudoku puzzle into this color
version. I'm a senior citizen, but my grandchildren love it, too!

Just received this in the mail today. Purchased it to put away for Christmas. I had planned to give it to my 14 year old, who loves Sudoku (so do I), but now that I've seen it, it is going under the tree addressed to whole family (she has a 7 year old sister, too). I'm thrilled with the quality...much larger and solid than I expected. I was a little concerned after reading the reviews that the ball colors would be too similar, but this must have been corrected because they are all very distinct and I can't see how you would mix them up. I plan to leave this out on the coffee table (definitely attractive enough to) and maybe put the pattern cards in a cute basket or container beside it. We live in the D.C. area and if this year is anything like the last, I'm banking on our enjoying this through whatever blizzards come our way this year! (Nice alternative to a regular puzzle.) I plan to order extra pattern cards with my Christmas Amazon order. This is a nice way to challenge the Sudoku lover by taking it to the next level-no sequential number pattern to run through your head as a "check". Very pleased with this high quality product!

I bought this game for my 9 year old nephew for Christmas and he really enjoyed it. It's less intimidating than the numerical version of Sudoku and he caught on fairly fast. His 4 year old brother even helped put in the marbles in the right places and while he didn't quite understand the rules he seemed to enjoy trying to catch on. The wooden board it comes with is very sturdy and well crafted. My only complaint would be that the maker of the toy doesn't supply any holding container for all of the colored marbles, so it's a bit cumbersome to put away when you're done. However, I would recommend this game to any parent who enjoys Sudoku and wants to teach their children the game! The best part about it is that any Sudoku puzzle you can find online is easily translatable to this version. I highly recommend it!
