"Colors Everywhere" Should Be, Well, Everywhere,
By Amy Steele "quirky mama" (Western NC, Land of the Mullets With Tails) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Colors Everywhere (Hardcover)
Even though I found this book dogged at a thrift shop, I snatched it up because Tana Hoban's photos are that good. This book contains photos of urban living, some homey objects, and images from the natural world (sunflower, peacock, fall leaves). I am so glad that the below editorial reviews explain the color bar graph thingy; I am not great at that sort of thing. Here is an example of how it works: the photo of the sunflower has the bar graph directly next to it. The bar graph reflects the amount of different colors in the photo. Thus, the sunflower bar graph contains three colors that are present in the photo (listed from the biggest bar to the smallest): a golden yellow, an army green, and a bit of tan. On some pages, however, I think that the biggest bars show the colors that most catch your eye (e.g.next to the peacock photo, the bar that is the biggest is blue- that is the color that most stands out in that photo, even though there is more green (grass) present in the photo). Neat that your child can discover new colors, compare the nuances of hues, and even find colors in photos that you did not notice were there (e.g.a small amount of light purple in the koi photo; even shadows in the photos create colors). This book is the perfect combo of pleasant, intriguing photo art with lessons in color identification.

This was one of my son's favorite books from the school library. I had looked everywhere for it and could not find it and finally decided to try amazon. I was so pleasantly surprised to see it here. The price was reasonable and it was shipped quickly. Recieving this book put a huge smile on my son's face.
