"Colors",
By Raine (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Colors (Audio CD)
Hikki, has managed to just keep on getting better and better. Although, "Colors" is not my favorite track she's ever done, it is very good.1. "Colors" - 4.9/5 I wanted to give this track a 5, but I just couldn't. It's a very pretty track, with a great beat. Her vocals are beautiful , and go very well, with the instruments in the background. I can't understand much Japanese, but it doesn't matter. 2. "Simple and Clean" - 5/5 This one is sung in english. It was originally done for the video game "Kingdom Hearts", but stands out on it's own. It's another beauty, that I always enjoy listening to. Just because it's sung in english, doesn't mean it's better than most of her Japanese tracks. 3. "Simple and Clean - Planitb remix" - 4.5/5 You should note, that this a much longer version of the remix, than the one played during "Kingdom Hearts". Although, this is the same remix, that one was only 2:31, this is 5:45, making it longer than the slow version. I think it's a great remix, but I am one of the few people who like the original version just a little more. 4. "Colors - Original Karaoke" 5/5 When I give this 5 stars, it doesn't mean it's better than the songs she sung, it just means that, out of all the karaoke tracks I've ever heard, this is one of the best. The instruments sound very beautiful together, and down need vocal's to make them sound great. Overall, these are not my favorite songs she has ever done, but they are still incredible tracks. Hikki, never fails when it comes to putting out good music!

"Colors" is an emotionally charged, awesome release. It came at just the right moment in Utada Hikaru's now-illustrous career. There was a great deal of time between the successes of her album "Distance" (from which the remake of the title track became the huge hit "Final Distance", which is actually much more emotional and is better than the light, upbeat version originally released on the album) and the anticipation of something new. Her singles off of the "Deep River" album were great -- "Sakura Drops" (debuted at #1, owned it, and finally faded after months), "Hikari" (see my review of the single. It is possibly one of the best songs ever), and "Travelling" (a great upbeat dance tune with a solid video) where the first few. In order to bridge the gap, there is this megahit "Colors". You don't need to understand a lick of Japanese to appreciate "Colors" for what it's meant to be. Appropriately titled, this song tells a beautiful story and utilizes color references for emphasis. Though I am American I speak Japanese and I am providing in this review a translation of the lyrics into English (forgive my translation if I mis-phrase): The mirror that reveals my dreams The swaying flames paint my dreams tonight Chorus: Colors fade under a flourescent lamp-- The one time we lost our way, we nestled close-- Watching the orange colors of the setting sun with you was wonderful. In myself, I see no dreams, like unpainted pictures

so awesome,
This review is from: Colors (Audio CD)
Colors is a really really pretty song ! It's so great, trust me. Hikki sings it perfectly. The music is so soothing ish and kind of eerie. It gets stuck in your head too. The chorus i mean. Then wow the lyrics are really meaningful. It tells about like a girl who went thru a change and she's really happy about it so she tells her guy friend about her change and he tries to paint what she says but in the end he ends up painting unhappy pictures. It turns out the girls changed so much the guy doesnt recognize her. AWWWW. This song is so awesome.
And everyone knowns SIMPLE AND CLEAN. I bet whenever the KH commercial came on, everyone started singing along. Haha, my little 4 year old cousin did! See how catchy Hikki's songs are?!!? Lol. Anyways, this song is really awesome!!!!!!!! I highly recommend it. Hikki's voice is just so beautiful and this song is just so beautiful. Sigh. Hikki's music just plain rocks........

I saw the comercial for kingdom hearts:chain of memories and they were playing simple and clean and I knew right there that simple and clean was the best song in the world! I didn't know that this cd had that song so I had my parents order the kingdom hearts cd but by accident they ordered the japanese version, but I still don't mind because the japanese version also rocks!!! Also when I play the song on piano the words to the song in my head are in japanese, ha ha. So if you like simple and clean, BUY THIS CD!

I'am a Hikki fan since I heard her dubet single "Automatic".N' now,I find that every single of hers is so awesome that I just can't miss. Maybe her voice is not perfect, but just fit the songs, and hikki wrote them all by herself! She sang the song "With or Without You" in her Unplugged Concent,And It was not better or worse than U2 version,'cos she made the song very different from U2,just like it was a new song! That's great!I bought hikki's singles for instrumental version, and I also liked the background vocal.Of couse,I love "COLORS",though it isn't her best.N' I prefer Japanese "Hikari" to "Simple & clear",but that don't mean it's a bad song."GANBATE" HIKKI!I wait for your new singles(In Japanese or English),and wait for it HIT(Both in Japan&the U.S.)

COLORS mixes a unique new sound with a wonderful voice. "Simple and Clean" and all English song, recorded over the music from "Hikari" shows Utada Hikaru's amazing talent, and ability to write and sing in any language. She's a huge star in Japan, and I have a feeling she'll soon be a huge star in the US.

Utada Hikaru is a very talented musician. She is a great singer in both languages(of course, because she's American),and is a great composer."Simple and Clean" is the first song that introduced me to loving Japan. After playing the game,"Kingdom Hearts", I kept hearing that song over and over again. "COLORS" is also a hit.I love listening to a song with such emphasis. No wonder she is an International star.I even hear she is doing a new recording called "Unity",the Official Athens 2004 Olympic Games Album on Island Records.I am definitely looking forward seeing Utada at the Olympics!

This is one of the the best singles I heard from Hikaru Utada. She can sing with perfect English and Japanese. Plus, Hikaru is a talented musican. You should also try listening to her other songs like "Automatic" and " In My Room"!

if you called these lyrics childish then you are obviously very childish yourself. it's a very nostalgic song which carries itself byt the lyrics as the music isn't exactly catchy. Love her use of metaphors but overall the single itself is dissappointing. the planitB remix of simple and clean is bascially the remix of hikari, which i dont like that much. but COLORS is great
