Not my favorite, but my kids love it,

This book has some very good features to it. The best feature is that the pieces of texture are larger than many of the touch and feel books, so little ones can really feel the texture. The second thing I like about it are the pictures, while very simple, are also eye-catching to babies and toddlers. This was my (now toddler) then baby's favorite book for awhile. She could look at the book for a long time, and that was without touching it, add the touch and feel element to it gave her even more amusement. My (now) baby also loves it, just like her sister did. The textures are very appealing, a soft fuzzy duck, a bumpy frog, a shimmery fish (which is also rough to the touch), and an extremely soft, fluffy bird. The sparkly butterfly is similar to in touch to the rest of the page, although slightly smoother, it is sparkly. Also, it is very sturdy, which is a huge plus for baby books.
Yet, I did have some problems with the book, even though my children love it. As one of the negative reviewers wrote, the yellow lion is more orange than yellow. It is clearly yellow on the front page, but on the inside, it is on a bight yellow background and the lion itself is more dark yellow or orange. But to be honest, I didn't even notice that until I read that review and only mention it because I see that maybe some people would be displeased by it, although it doesn't really bother me. My biggest problem was that the next page includes a green bear. Now, I am not too sure why this bothers me, but it does. It seems that the book is trying to keep the colors of the animals realistic - meaning that they try to match it to the closest basic color (yellow lion and duck, green frog, blue elephant and fish, a red bird). So why did they do a green bear? I just find it odd. I also found the red cat (I would considered this to be red, although I could see why someone else may see it to be pink) to be slightly odd, although this didn't bother me as much as the green bear. These are only minor flaws, and since my children love it, I say it was definitely worth buying, and I would recommend it, not so much to teach color, but more so for the touch and feel aspect of it.

My daughter is 1 and she loves these simple yet colorful books. The tactile additions really make a difference in keeping her excited about the books. We're trying to teach her colors and shapes right now so its perfect.

We got this book at my son's 6 month well baby visit and he loves it! He's 8 months old now and it's one of his favorite books! I would recommend this book a thousands times over, especially if your baby loves textures like mine does.

I really like this series of board books from scholastic. Very colorful and bright. Even my 4 and 6 year olds fight over them when I pull them out for the baby.

My little one LOVES this book. He likes the front cover the most! lol....Funny thing about the photo showing on this site is that the lions mane looks purple but it is actually silver with silver sparkles that reflect all sorts of colors. It's very fascinating to my son. He loves the lion! The only thing I would have wished is that every character in the book was touch and feel but only the animals on the right side of each page are. The left side is just a color and he doesn't notice it too often. My son got this book about 4 mos old and is still enjoying it at 7mos. I know he's going to have fun with this one for awhile.

Baby Loves It,
This review is from: Colors (Little Scholastic) (Board book)
My son is only 10 weeks old and loves this book. Since he was about 5 weeks old he loved looking at the pictures. This was one of the first things that made him smile. The pictures really capture his attention. The yellow lion in particular really gets him going. We didn't notice any color errors like mentioned in a previous post.

Terrible!,

The "yellow lion" on page 1 is orange. The "red cat" on page 7 is pink. The "sparkly butterfly" on page 10 doesn't sparkle at all. The book is ten pages long, and three of those pages have major errors. I don't want my toddler thinking that orange is yellow, pink is red, or "shiny" and "sparkly" mean the same thing.
I do not recommend this book.

What a fantastic book series. My husband and I bought this book (as well as Alphabet and Numbers, also by Little Scholastic), and my son is completely enthralled with them. We read them daily, by his choice. The books are short, with colorful pictures and easy to point to and identify shapes on the pages (or letters, numbers). Some of the books have textural differences to make it more interesting for your toddler to feel the page and interact with it.
These have been our favorite "educational" books for our little boy and we would highly recommend them!
