3.0 out of 5 stars Oak Ridge Boys Colors
I just received this album in the mail. The first thought I had was, wouldn't Steve Sanders have loved to be on this album. I noticed they used the same musical arrangement on "Thank God For Kids" that they used on the "Country Christmas Eve" album which featured Steve. As far as all the hype over this being the best Oaks album yet, I'll have to say...

I bought this album intenchionaly for my father. I watched him as he broke out into tears which he had not done for a long time. The one song on this album "G.I. Joe & Lilly" is in fact a true story about his mother and father. They both have passed on and are curently burried at Alinington National Cemetary but Joe Bonsall had wrote the song and in my eyes, I believe he did a great job and his parents would be proud of him. The song "An American Family" is a really nice song, it speaks of a family who lives in the house but it speaks of the whole family including the children and grand children. The song "Colors" is a very good song about the flag and this country, it shows thier respect for this country and what they believe in standing up for and that is this country. This album in my eyes is religous and the name Jesus and God is mentioned on the album quite a few times. If you would like to give a gift worth giving to a friend or a family member who is a Veteran of ANY war I would suggest you give him/her this album. As I said my father broke out in tears because of the music. I hope I helped you on your selection of this album, and I hope you do buy the album if only to suppose religion, veterans, or family.

5.0 out of 5 stars A sincere tribute to "Home, Family & Country", May 20, 2003

Each release by the Oak Ridge Boys exceeds their previous works as well as the expectations of their fans. "Colors" is no exception. This work is a sincere salute to our country, our families and our way of life. "Colors" the title cut honors our flag and country with a genuineness unmatched. "Absence of Love" is a strong family oriented work depicting what we have lost; more importantly what the country needs. "The Home Stretch" features William Lee Golden on lead in a touching balad describing the final miles reaching home. Each of these songs feature the unmistakable harmonies of these four best known for "Elvira" but understated in their talents as individual vocalists. In a book recently released, Oak Ridge Boys tenor Joe Bonsall describes the life of "G.I. Joe & Lillie", 2 world war heroes who dedicated their lives to each other, their country and their family. The Oaks feature "G.I. Joe & Lillie" in an emotional tribute on this album. The listener only learns at the end of the song that G.I. Joe & Lillie are actually Joe Bonsall's parents. "Thank God For Kids" is re-released with some refinements as it remains one of the most popular songs in each live performance. The album is rounded out with a finale acapella version of the "Star Spangled Banner". The unmistakeable harmonies give one goose bumps and a swollen chest bursting with pride. I truly enjoy this album & you will too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Country Radio is missing out by not playing "Colors"!!!, August 4, 2003
This review is from: Colors (Audio CD)
It's hard to imagine the Oak Ridge Boys making a less than perfect album. "Colors" is more than just another patriotic flag-waving songs. G.I. Joe and Lillie is just the greatest song about the generation that brought us through WWII, and is especially touching to be the personal story of Joe's parents. (Read the book by the same name, it's great too!) "Colors" should be play on radio, but it isn't, which is further commentary on the sad state of today's Country Radio. And it's too bad too, as this album is just super. The Oak Ridge Boys continue to put out excellent work, and this is another in their long list of greats.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Boys Do It Again!!, May 20, 2003

In the last few years, the Oaks have "started over again." That's not to say that they ever really stopped. They remain one of the busiest acts in the country, working over 150 dates a year. But as far as recording goes, they've returned to the very foundation of their music. In 2001, they released their first gospel album in 25 years, and last year, they brought out 11 brand new Christmas songs. Now, they celebrate everything they've stood for through their career: Faith, Family, and Country. Each song falls into this category in some form, and the result is, yet again, outstanding! Michael Sykes and Duane Allen work together seamlessly as producers. Key tracks include the title track, "The Home Stretch" (tissues are must on this song!), and "Glory Bound," as well as their new rendition of previous hits "An American Family" (which includes a brand-new ending) and one of their signature tunes, "Thank God For Kids." At a retail of thirteen bucks (when most of the industry is charging nearly twenty dollars per 10-song CD), you get TWELVES cuts that are well worth the cost!!

"RED as the bloodshed, BLUE as the wounded, WHITE as the crosses on our soldiers' graves... These colors never run!" From the very beginning of the first track (the title song, "Colors"), when those powerful words hit me, I knew this was going to be a special CD. And it is!

This CD is full of passion, patriotism, insight, faith, family, love, hope, & POWER HARMONY like only the Boys can sing it!

This is a must have CD for any Oak Ridge Boys fan, Country Music fan, &/or anyone who loves to listen to great harmony!

I just received this album in the mail. The first thought I had was, wouldn't Steve Sanders have loved to be on this album. I noticed they used the same musical arrangement on "Thank God For Kids" that they used on the "Country Christmas Eve" album which featured Steve. As far as all the hype over this being the best Oaks album yet, I'll have to say I was disappointed. They have done better in the past. It seems to drag on and on with a lack of the typical Oaks style. Also, for an Oak Ridge Boys patriotic album, they should have included American Made and Take Pride In America. But even if it isn't their best effort, it still sounds great, and I'm still an Oaks fan for life.

I bought this CD just to get the National Anthem, which is the best version in my opinion. There are other good cuts on the album, such as "thank God for kids".
