Don't be fooled by the low price. This is a fantastic Celtic CD. I found it because I was hunting for Fernhill (Julie Murphy is the band's singer), which is on this CD twice. No less an august folk personnage than Eliza Carthy has said this group is one of her favorites out there (I recommend the Fernhill album "Whilia" if you like what you hear here), but you can't get their music easily in stores and through mass clearinghouses like Amazon.

This CD is fantastic overall, however. I love Susan McKeown's "Bushes and Briars", which is beautiful, as is Dervish's tune. And the instrumentals are really standout pieces, not celtic "filler" that they sometimes can be.

This is my first celtic cd and I can honestly say that I have not herd anything that can rival it. I have found the music soothing at all times. I even played it for my baby nephew and he fell asleep through it. Even my friends enjoyed it emensily. All of them went out to purchase the cd.

From this rather obscure little collection, I found a couple of my favorite celtic songs.

Bushes & Briars (Susan McKeown) is beautiful, a strong, sad melody. Without a doubt it's my favorite of her songs so far; I picked up her album Lowlands, which I also recommend.

Cowboi (Fernhill) is an fast-pace song. Even though it's not in English, it's catchy, and you can kind of sing along. Because of this song I've looked for more of their music, but it's hard to find. My other favorite of Fernhill is 'Llatai', which I found on The Acoustic Folk Box, a fantastic collection of folk music.

Though those 2 were the only ones I really fell in love with, I found I enjoyed the rest of the songs on the disc as well. Most of them at first glance seem those 'same old same old' jigs/reels, but I grew more attached to them. Neverbird is a really pretty instrumental piece. Farfarwell Fo I Langyfelach Lon is purely vocals, haunting rather (but lovely).

This album was one of the first 'celtic' ones I came across. I enjoy similar music, like Altan and Clannad, and am always happy to find more. Especially considering the price, this album is a must for those looking for some beautiful music.
