"There is a world of possibility contained in each day of birth. You were born during a particular season, under a particular sun sign. You have a ruling planet and belong to a particular element-fire, earth, air or water. Each day carries a numerological vibration that has a very specific value and meaning. All these factors shape your personality and life experiences-and when combined, create your personal birth color." - From the Book

The idea behind Colorstrology is an intriguing one: assigning a birth color to every day of the year using astrology and numerology. By aligning with these energies, an individual can reach his or her highest potential.

Colorstrology by Michele Bernhardt is a thick, square book that is smaller than the picture suggests. The pages are filled with a dizzying array of beautiful colors. The back of the book features perforated color swatches for each day so you can take your personal daily or monthly colors with you when traveling or shopping.

But how are the personality profiles? Very sketchy, unfortunately. Here are but a few samples from the book:

Nov. 18th: Amaranth

Majestic

Insightful

Determined

"Dramatic and perceptive, you are interesting to watch and be around. You strive for greatness, and you have a lot of talent. Partnerships are important to you. Try not to judge yourself or others harshly. Creative development takes time. It is the journey towards your greatness that should be reveled in and enjoyed."

Sept. 29: Dream Blue

Intelligent

Resourceful

Colorful

"You have a creative mind and an adventurous spirit. It may be a challenge for you to keep your equilibrium due to your sensitive nature.

The first thing I did, upon receiving Colorstrology as a gift, was to look up my birthday color, my son's birthday color, and so on. But after reading the introduction and spending more time with the colors themselves, I realized that the book is not just about particular birthdays and their colors, but it's about the relationship between colors and using color as a route into our inner world. Of course, at the most superficial level, it's a fun book to have, a fun book to give, but like anything great it is evocative of much more.

It's useful like any dictionary or encyclopedia. It doesn't tell you everything you want to know (though maybe she'll elaborate in another book one day) but it sets in motion an inner dialogue, a play of feelings inside, about color and colors affect on us.

I open it to a color I like and I read the qualities associated with that color. When I shop, I think of what color I am attracted to and what that might say about what is going on in my life. It's a whimsical, poetic, and suggestive little book -- this Colorstrology -- and I recommend it!

Don't be disappointed if you expect a book that also includes astrological information to be in the forefront. This is, just as stated on the cover, "what your birthday color says about you" and nothing more. There is, beneath the full-page sample of your color, a couple two or three paragraphs about your personality, preferences, color partners. I've read their birthday color info to many of my friends and acquaintences, and we all seem to agree that it's worth picking up a copy. Simple, functional, fun for those interested in decorating, astrology.

I don't understand how the author does it, but the personality descriptions are uncanny. I looked up nearly everyone I know, and it is as if she knows them personally. This is the perfect book for the person who has everything. It is interesting and entertaining...a party starter for sure. It is well illustrated and beautifully put together.

In the Graphic Design business, I often find myself counseling about color. I'm pleased to have this little gem in my reference library for just that purpose. I'm inspired by Michele Bernhardt's work.

I first heard of this book from the author's website ( I heard about the website from Life Coach Cheryl Richardson's book about Grace)and was curious about the idea of colorstrology. I like the author's "word magic" on her website, which gives people an opportunity to prayerfully consider what daily guidance they need for the day.

But I was disappointed in the colorstrology book, because it seemed very general, like the horoscope in daily newspapers, which can apply to anyone at different times and in different situations. Like a previous reviewer, I wondered what the author's method was for designating colors to certain days, along with personality traits and flairs. After reading the professional review of it that mentions Oprah and Salvador Dali, I wondered how closely the author may have relied on celebrity personalities to describe birthdates. I have a friend who shares the same birthdate with me (we are six years apart in age) but we have different personalities. Most of the birth colors and descriptions of the birthdates of my family and friends do not fit them. I had to ask myself...what if they had fit? Would I be writing a totally different review?

I have been interested in metaphysics and spiritual matters for several years now, reading many different books and attendings various seminars and classes. After all this, the most important thing I have learned is that every person has to decide for themselves what resonates with them, or not. I have alot of respect for metaphysicians and healers, including this author, and I believe that although this book did not resonate with me, it will surely help and inspire someone else.
