The band say they don't have any control over their music, that the songs just come out that way. "It's not like we've been playing our instruments for ten years," says Orlando. "Any naiveté is genuine." What The Maccabees want most of all is to make people feel special. "We get kids at the front of our gigs and they look at us the way I used to look at bands," says Felix. "You can just see it in their eyes. It means something to them. And that means something to us." --This text refers to an alternate Audio CD edition.

In a year, for me at least, where all the major "indie" releases have been disappointments (from Wilco to Bjork) this hits it out of the park on nearly every song.
It has a kind of contsant nervous churn that sounds familiar (early REM, Interpol, Clinic) but feels new, if that makes any sense. The standouts are the fast/slow "Mary" and (single?) "First Love."

So tomorrow you have all your CD's stolen from you... your Coldplay, Interpol, Explosions in the Sky, all gone. Why aren't you sad? Well to start with you've got your music backed up on the computer, secondly your reading this review which means you have just found a cornerstone album on which to rebuild your entire CD library. 'Pound for Pound' the Maccabee's Debut recording 'Color It In' is amongest the very best premiere releases I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. Play the first track 'Good Old Bill' and two ideas may just be able to swim admist the euphoric sonic waves inundating the temporal lobes... 1) What I am listening to is original 2) What I am listening to is good... very good.
The music is unshy, the genious of such creativity simply offers no place to hide, the music is not polished, it's way too clean already without any greasy residue, the music is important from the lyrics to the instrumental compostion every song a musical gem long awaited to be Coloured in(to) the collective counsciousness of the human mind... the Maccabees have done it. Congratulations to them... on a Fantastic Debut Record!
