Editorial Reviews

Review

''Their pulsing layers of feedback and those droll, deadpan vocals are ripped straight from Psychocandy, but the galloping, amphetamine rhythms are harder charging than even the most amped up track on that album.'' --Pitchfork

''Billows of fuzz and noise mix with alternating vocals, evoking the overcase landscapes of a Sofia Coppola movie in slow motion.'' --Nylon

Product Description

Austin, Texas based Ringo Deathstarr are pleased to announce the release of their debut album, Colour Trip, on Sonic Unyon Records. The band, formed in 2007, channels the influences of The Cure, The Smiths, Fugazi, and The Velvet Underground, and have recently supported acts such as the Dandy Warhols, A Place to Bury Strangers, and Secret Machines. Colour Trip recalls the pop thrill and sonic squall of prime time Mary Chain or Strawberry Wine era MBV, and has already been lauded by the likes of Pitchfork and Nylon. Ringo Deathstarr are: Elliott Frazier (guitars and vocals), Alex Gehring (bass and vocals), and Daniel Coborn (drums)

5.0 out of 5 stars killer psychedelic shoegaze feedback pop/rock June 21, 2011
Format:Audio CD
Austin, Texas debut of psychedelic shoegaze feedback pop/rock with exquisite layers of distorted
noise spread over dreamy, head-boppin' melodies with a high hum factor. Simultaneously
beautiful & powerful, this is MBV style indie rock at its best. Pukka summer noise pop for the
beach, the club or the headphones. Excellent! Similar to My Bloody Valentine, Jesus & Mary
Chain, The Raveonettes, She Sir, The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, Slowdive, Medicine....

5.0 out of 5 stars it's so good... IT'S SO GOOD!!! March 22, 2011
Format:Audio CD
i've been listening to a lot of "nu-shoegazer" that's been coming out the last few years, and these guys were always one of my favorites with their first album. now that they've finally released their second full length, i can say i am not dissapointed in the least. my bloody valentine has got nothing on these guys, and i know that's a pretty bold statement to make in terms of shoegazer, but listen to it and maybe you'll understand. while my bloody valentine more or less invented the shoegazer sound, ringo deathstarr has defined it and brought it up to date. this production is probably some of the best production i've ever heard in my life. it's noisy, yet clear. it's lo-fi, yet huge. this is what loveless would sound like if it came out in 2011. a blinding wash of reverb and distortion, notes bending out of tune, crafted into really catchy pop tunes. some might argue that they sound TOO much like my bloody valentine, but when it comes to the shoegazer sound, at least for me, there's no such thing as TOO MUCH like my bloody valentine. now compared to ringo deathstarr's first album, i'd say their first album had slightly catchier songs, but this release is more consistent, and it's really reaching out there to reinvent old ideas, create new sounds. i'm sitting here wondering if this might be the best sounding shoegazer album i've ever heard. i always wanted my bloody valentine to release a new album for the longest time, but now that i've heard colour trip, i almost don't care, i'm gonna be watching out for these guys. this is the coolest band i've heard in a long time, and hearing a sophomore release that didn't actually disappoint me is really inspiring. LISTEN TO THIS NOW. watch their videos too. and if you like this, check out pains of being pure at heart's new release, belong.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4 and 1/2 for an awesome if flawed album July 13, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this during a short lived hipster kick about six months ago, in other words I was buying nothing but albums from bands I'd never heard of, for exactly that reason, I still do it, but I'm less picky and less of a d-bag about it. Anyway, it reminded me a bit of My Bloody Valentine, which I first heard of because I saw Lost in Translation, and loved the scene with "Sometimes" in it. Anyway, this album really is pretty awesome, the dreamy guitars, awesome vocals, and such make it a grand entrance into the kingdom of Dream Pop and Shoegaze, it's like Jesus and Mary Chain meets MBV, yeah, just goes to show my hipsterism. If you like this kinda music, really check it out, they have a new album coming out soon, really lookin' forward to it, check that one out too. :)
