CAROLE KING ... NOW AND FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Colour of Your Dreams (Audio CD)
I'm a major fan of Carole King, and I bought this album in conjunction with TAPESTRY in 1995. By then, at age 14 I had definitely heard of her and knew she was an accomplished songwriter and singer but wanted to discover that for myself. Basically, my comments on TAPESTRY would simply be the same as everyone else's (revering it as a masterpiece of course!), so I'll instead comment on COLOUR OF YOUR DREAMS: this is a great Carole King album! I worship "Now And Forever." It was a perfect opener to A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN, and I am still hearing it on the radio to this day. The album also contains many other great songs, including "Lay Down My Life," "Standing In The Rain," "Wishful Thinking," "Tears Falling Down On Me," (a wonderful song whose subject matter refers to rape and racism), and "Friday's Tie-Dye Nightmare." Even by 1993 when this album came out, Carole had ventured into other fields (conservation, politics, and acting) and was not as involved in music as she was during her 60's-70's prime! However, this album is a strong reminder of the fact that if you have talent, it's never really going to fade or weaken ... in Carole's case, it only gets better!

Hooked on King...,

I first heard Carol King while I was in the Army in '75, feeling totally oppressed, depressed and wanting out. I bought a cassette player and two tapes, Carol King's Wrap Around Joy and an Elton John. "Jazzman" said it all, it was like she was right there expressing everything I was feeling in that song, well almost. Been to Canaan on Rhymes and Reasons was another song that really cracked an opening in my psyche. I haven't stopped listening to her since, although I have taken a break from music. I was hesitant in purchasing Colour of Your Dreams as I thought it might be more for the younger generation but I was wrong. Friday's Tie Dye Nightmare became my favorite right away, revealing the dog eat dog world and our part in being devoured. Its Never Too Late, was just the inspiration I needed. Her Fantasy cd is also one of my favorites in that it also reveals the beauty and harsh realities of life. Some of King's music started a kind of healing in my life. No song writer has ever moved me more with her music than Carol King.

Tapestry Of The 90's,

Colour of your dreams is an excellent cd. The writing and music quality are impeccable. It seemed to me that King was trying to recreate another "Tapestry" album, right down to having one silly song included in the mix. The song is called "Friday's tie-dye nightmare" and I couldn't help but think of "smackwater Jack" when I heard this. The songs all have a definite Tapestry feel to them in that they are uplifting and hold so much truth in the lyrics. I highly recommend this cd for any Carole King fans. I can't understand why this cd had so little recognition. My personal favorites are: Standing in the rain, wishful thinking, It's never too late, and Now and forever. However, the entire cd is fantastic.

King has matured like a fine wine.,

Four years after her ambitious and triumphant "City Streets" album (her first project in six years and unfortunately still out of print), Carole King returned to mostly accoustical arrangements after experimenting for a time with keyboard and guitar synthesizers. The result is "Colour of Your Dreams", a solid, confident, confessional work of pop/rock music. King reveals a remarkable maturity on this album...as a woman who has experienced first-hand all of the many ideas and stories she is bringing to bear."Lay Down My Life", which opens the album with a steady drum beat and King's rhythmic and contemplative piano, cuts straight to the heart as she has never sounded more sincere. "Hold Out" is a terrific rocker and King performs it with the same confidence she did on all of the "City Streets" tracks. "Standing In The Rain", a slower-tempo rocker, is fun in her "tongue in cheek" way. Her beautiful and upbeat theme song from the film "A League of Their Own" is thankfully included here. "Now and Forever" expresses just about everything one has ever wanted to say to a best friend in King's modest style. "Wishful Thinking" and "Just One Thing" again reveals the artist at her most confessional. Overall, "Colour of Your Dreams" is another very solid, wonderfully melodic album of original material which goes to show once again that, like with a fine wine, artists like Carole King continue to mature beautifully with age.

Roll over Tapestry,
By
This review is from: Colour of Your Dreams (Audio CD)
In 1971 Carole King released what would soon be her best known record ever, Tapestry. Like Joni Mitchell's Blue, King's Tapestry is considered one of the best records by a female singer-songwriter ever. Every woman could identify with the songs on those records. Unlike miss Mitchell, Carole never released another record that could even stand in Tapestry's shadow. According to critics that is. Carole's fans know better.
1976 Saw the release of Thoroughbred an album that deserved much better reviews than it got. But, in 1993 Carole released Colour of Your Dreams. I'm speaking for myself off course when I say that this is miss King's best album ever! I do like Tapestry a lot, but Colour... This one is way better than Tapesty. Opening track Lay Down My Life really makes you feel the earth move under your feet, no pun intended. The lyrics are beautiful and the uptempo music make this such an uplifitng song. Hold Out for Love, well you have to hear this song and really listen to the lyrics to appreciate it. Carole speaks for all of us on this one. Standing in the Rain is a classic victim song, as Barbra Streisand would call it. But it's a brilliant one! How great to follow such a victim song with a 'I'm at peace with how things went' track as Now and Forever. Carole wrote this for the 1992 movie A lEAGUE Of Their Own and decided to include it on this record as well. Thank God she did, because this song deserves to be included on such a beautiful collection of songs. I don't believe there's a person in this world who can not identify to these words. I certainly can, for me it's about my best friend who died seven years ago. But to others it may recall memories about a love or friendship that died instead of a person. This song deserved to be a huge number one single, sadly it didn't! Wishful Thinking is nothing more or less a song than what the title implies and could have been a Tapestry outtake. I love it can't get enough of listening to it. Together with Now and Forever & Lay Down My Life the highlights of this album! Colour of Your Dreams is an okay song, not bad at all, but not my favorite either. Tears Falling Down On Me is up there with Carole's best written songs. I'm not gonna tell you what it's about. Discover this one for yourself, it's touching. If you loved Tapestry's Smackwater Jack, you will go crazy while listening to Friday's Tie-Dye Nightmare. This one is even funnier and better than Smackwater. Just One Thing is another song we all can identify with, but hey, is there a Carole song we can't identify with? Do You Feel Love is nice, but I wouldn't have missed this one if it wasn't included here. It's Never Too Late wraps this album up and does so very, very well. I bet that after you've listened to this album, you'll agree with me that Carole King outreached Tapestry with Colour of Your Dreams!
