5.0 out of 5 stars Claudine's very best work
Until now, the only way for Claudine Longet fans to hear the Colours album would have been to buy one of the outrageously expensive Japanese import copies. Until now, the only way for Claudine Longet fans to hear the Colours album would have been to buy one of the outrageously expensive Japanese import copies. Well, finally Colours is available again and at a very reasonable price. It should be noted up front that this recording is also an import. This time it's from Russia. Who knew that Claudine had fans in Russia? I do have to admit to being surprised and anxious about the anticipated quality of a Russian recording. However, I'm pleased to report that the quality is excellent. This CD is an exact copy of the original A&M Records recording (SP 4163). There are no bonus tracks on this CD. Accordingly, playing time by modern standards is somewhat short at a little over 31 minutes (11 songs). But what a 31-minute collection. In my opinion, Colours is Claudine's finest album. Claudine's low key performances are a welcome counterpoint to the volume blasting vocals of TV contestants that are being passed off as talent today. The CD comes with a booklet that I presume tells you about Claudine's life and recordings. Unfortunately, it's in Russian. I also presume that the Japanese CD comes with a booklet that is in Japanese. Oh, by the way, have no fear, her songs are sung in English.

5.0 out of 5 stars Claudine Painting Music In "Colours", May 6, 2006
By
This review is from: Colours (Audio CD)
"Colours" -- the title of this album of songs interpreted by and delivered by the French songstress Claudine Longet describes the music as well as the performer artist Herself!

While Claudine's magical mystical whispy vocal style is mesmerizing on all of Her recorded works, THIS album, "COLORS" may be Her finest album of them all.

Of the eleven tracks included, all of them being more than enjoyable, i might single out several: Two Donovan penned songs -- "Catch The Wind" and "Colours" (which Claudine captured the spirit of the songs purrrrfectly!) . . . "For Bobbie (For Baby)" . . . and "Am I Blue".

My personal all-time favorite song on this or on any of Claudine's albums is "I Believed it All (Didn't You?)" -- what a poetic wistful nostalgic reminiscence of childhood and its hopes and fears and dreams! Claudine's magic makes this song seem so much like it could be any of our childhoods being re-presented. The album is worth gettijg just for this track alone . . . and all the other ten tracks are absolute gold-mine bonuses! :)

Claudine is a beautiful woman . . . making beautiful music . . . singing beautiful songs . . . beautifully!

Thank You Claudine Longet for all the great recordings You have gifted us with . . . and especially for this magical collection of "Colours"! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Claudine Fans and Soft Jaz Lovers, November 22, 2002

I have owned this recording since it was released.
It is the best work she has released. The blending of her unique voice, musical arrangements and clearity of the recording makes this a must have.
Claudine was performing 'soft jazz' before there was a name for this type of musical genru.
Her presentation of Dovonan's 'Catch the Wind' is better than the original.
Claudine's 'country sound' of Colours is pure pleasure for country and non-country fans alike.
My only regret is that I do not have this CD.
I have vinyl and 4-track tape and they are wearing out.
Please restock this item.

Claudine's vocals bring joy and relaxation on any of her albums, but COLOURS (issued on vinyl as A&M SP 4163 in 1968) is brighter for the expert guest musicians on hand. For example, "I Think It's Going to Rain Today," one of Randy Newman's best compositions, features Randy himself on piano. A gorgeous cover of the Everly's "Let It Be Me" also makes this worthwhile. The fiddle playing of Bill Cunningham adds a nice touch to the title song, and the fine keyboard work of Lincoln Mayorga is featured throughout. Producer Tommy LiPuma and Arranger Nick DeCaro also deserve commendation. Final comment. Why hasn't RUN WILD, RUN FREE (A&M SP 4232) been included in the Claudine reissue program?

5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed It, February 20, 2008
This review is from: Colours (Audio CD)
An upbeat album, though short, I enjoyed it. Both critics and fans points about her music are valid. Fortunately in this album, the volume of her vocals and the instruments are well matched. Unhappy to find that I couldn't read this album on my computer CD drive and upload it. (Came from Russia)
