Extraordinary!!,
This review is from: Colours (Audio CD)
James Robinson is going to be one of the giants of jazz guitar.
And this album is a great introduction. He combines various musical influences from Flamenco, Middle eastern and Indian music and yet retains the originality and freshness of the Jazz as a medium. His technique is not limited to just great melodies or key changes over chord progressions, but includes a blazing virtuosity and blindingly fast runs which I have only seen in performances of John McLaughlin or Al DeMiola. Very few guitarists break from boundary of engineering precision and virtuosity that makes guitar novices go over the material again and again and into the heart and soul of just pure music. And James Robinson is definitely one of those exceptinal guitarists.

James Robinson - Colours CD - Jazz/Classical Fusion,

Sometimes it sounds like jazz, sometimes classical sometimes both in the same piece, but the instrumental is always mind blowing. You must also check out his Falling Into the Sky disk. At least as good as this one. Once you hear a few cuts off these two disks, you will be a James Robinson fan too.
Thanks James! (It's a simple game!)

I first heard of James Robinson when he played some amazing music at a local restaurant. It made me want to get up and dance but wasn't intrusive to our meal- worked great as the best background music I've ever heard. It has this amazing rhythm that you just can't help but dance in your chair to. So I bought the CD and I am not disappointed. Although the music in the restaurant had a little bit of a faster rhythm, this was still a great buy. I'm not the type to listen to this sort of music in my car because I need something I can sing to, but I plan to put it on in the background for social gatherings and while I'm entertaining at my house.

Passion, Grace, Fire and Versatility,

I got introduced to James Robinson by my brother who learnt from James. I heard James live in downtown Mountain View at Castro Street. James is an incredible guitarist. I have heard guitar virtuosos like Al Di Meola, John Mclaughlin, Paco De Lucia, Birelli Lagrene and I tend to base my relative comparisons on these very high standards. I feel that James has the versatility of Al, the fire of Paco, the romantic zeal from Birelli and the world fusion effect from John. But that's not where it ends. That was my first impression based on a few songs I heard initially. Then I started realizing there is a whole dimension of talent that James has thrown in there. There is no guitarist so appropriate for the diverse passions of his listeners, as his knowledge and experience seem to encompass a wide range or spectrum of guitarists and musicians. This includes Jimi Hendrix and even Joe Satriani.
I am thankful that I purchased all the CDs (most of them gifted to me actually by my brother who was happy that I liked James), and I listen to them on a regular basis. It is well worth owning his CDs, as I have been listening to it on my iTunes ever since, on a regular basis. He has really joined my premium jazz collection, but I am running out of imagination how I could categorize him! That's where the versatility goes in. I really meant to write this review much earlier. But first of all, here's the explanation. James has been playing guitar for many years, and I have heard only recently from my brother about him, so I didn't really get a chance to know his style and music composition quality until I actually heard him. Secondly I am really excited that I have been introduced to a potential future virtuoso guitarist before his accessibility increases over time. But I am not even sure why I used the word "future" when I really felt he was already there. I really don't think there is any more time left before he gets it, because he already gets in. And I am not writing this review over a few bottles of beer. I really think, this guy has got it right, and has something really big going for him. I really wish I could tell the whole world about him in a more efficient manner than through a review on Amazon, but I think this is a start.

This album is second only to seeing James Robinson live. Best concert I've ever been to, and one of the most amazing albums i've ever listened to.
