Adam, Ethan, and Ryan have everything they want in life with the exception of one thing - a woman who will complete them. They've planned and dreamed of the day they'd finally find a woman who incites the passion in all three of them and is strong enough to love and accept each in return. They'd just about lost hope until Adam trudged out to get the mail and finds Holly laying unconscious in the snow only yards from their home.

Holly is running from the man she married. She's been running scared since her wedding night when she saw her new husband commit murder. She was still running when her car broke down at the base of a mountain where the Colter brothers hunting lodge sits. She'd walked to their lodge, but lost consciousness before reaching the door. Next thing she knows, she's buck naked in a bathtub full of warm water with a gorgeous man standing over her. As if that isn't enough of a shock to a girl's system, there are two more men waiting in another room and all three of them want to keep her - forever.

The Colter brothers agree that Holly is everything they want in the woman who will become their wife, lover, and eventually the mother of their children. Convincing her that they're serious about wanting her to stay is going to be a bit trickier than any of them anticipated. Holly is determined to keep running. Not only is her husband a dangerous man, but she's also confused by her own desires for Adam, Ethan, and Ryan. Being so turned on by all three men at the same time makes her a whore, doesn't it? The brothers are going to have to do some serious explaining about their intentions toward her and why her attraction to all of them is acceptable and even desired. Helping her to get a divorce as quickly as possible is imperative, but not nearly as important as keeping her safe from the man who wants nothing more than to see her dead.

Maya Banks COLTERS' WOMAN is an awesome story full of emotional turmoil, hot sweaty sex, and enough suspense to keep readers anxiously reading through each scene with bated breath. Adam, Ethan, and Ryan each have vastly different personalities and needs. Holly is faced with the prospect of trying to figure out their quirks and how best to deal with each man. It's a bit overwhelming but she's up to the task. This book is chock full of scenes that will have you close to tears one minute and laughing out loud, all while chewing anxiously on your fingernails. The emotional bond that develops between the Colter brothers and Holly is a key factor throughout the story and readers won't soon forget any of these wonderful characters. Beautiful job, Maya! You've more than fulfilled my expectations with this endearing tale.

This review is from: Colters' Woman (Paperback)
When Adam Colter finds a beautiful stranger lying unconscious in a snow-covered ditch on his property, he feels an instant connection to her. Could she be the woman he and his brothers have been waiting for? Judging by Ethan and Ryan Colter's reactions to the woman, before she even wakes, the future looks promising with this mysterious woman in it.

Holly doesn't know quite what to think when she wakes to find herself in the care of the three brothers, all intent on making her their own. Even the pesky little detail that she is already married, or that her husband may be trying to kill her doesn't seem to deter the Colter men from their objective - her!

Maya Banks novel Colters' Woman was on my to be read list when I first read the synopsis for it. As I heard more and more buzz from others who had already enjoyed it, its reading priority was quickly escalated for me. I can tell you unequivocally, this book lives up to its hype!

If you enjoy a very hot erotic ménage tale, then you need to purchase Colters' Woman right away! This book starts out steamy, never lets up, and yet still has plenty of plot. The Colter men circle the wagons, so to speak, in order to protect the one woman who has been able to stir the hearts of each of these magnetic men from her murderous husband.

The Colter brothers could easily make any woman believe that marriage to three men is a perfectly normal thing. Indeed, the way Maya Banks writes these men makes a woman wish for just such a reality.

Once Holly recovers from her initial shock over the situation, she warms to the idea, and quickly proves she is the right woman for each man.

Colters' Woman is the kind of book that makes me kick myself for not having read any of Maya Banks work sooner!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply stunning!, January 24, 2007
This review is from: Colters' Woman (Paperback)
Adam Colter and his two brothers, Ethan and Ryan are feeling restless. Winter has set in, but after ten years of guiding hunters through the mountains in the fall, they want more. Walking to get the mail, Adam is surprised to see someone in a snowy ditch and rushes to help. Rushing to the fallen person, he is astonished to see that it is a woman and without further thought, he knows she is the one; the one person that will complete his family unit. Carefully picking her up, he rushes her to the cabin and his brothers.

Holly Bardwell is tired of running but has no choice. The witness of a murder, she escaped with just the clothes on her back and since her car broke down, she is relieved, lucky to not have died. She is a bit nervous though because she wakes up in the company of not one but three dashing and extremely virile looking men. Men that somehow make her feel safe, while at the same time make her feel aroused and tingly inside. Men that she is afraid of caring about because if she loves them, she might inadvertently put them in danger or get them harmed.

Adam, Ethan, and Ryan vow to Holly that she is safe from the menace searching for her and set out to prove to her that they love her and want her with them always. Finally feeling safe, Holly's world comes crashing down with a single gun shot. Now it is up to the brothers to save her like they promised.

Colters' Woman by Maya Banks is a ménage match made in heaven. I still haven't recovered from its intensity. Adam, Ethan, and Ryan are heroes at their finest and sinfully sexy lovers as well. Fully anticipating and looking forward to a ménage, what I got was so much more. More love, more passion, more story. Each male character is lovable, from Adam's no nonsense approach to Holly's safety, to Ethan's ready laughter, to Ryan's vulnerability. Each brother single handedly made me fall in love and like Holly, there would have been no way I could have picked just one. Holly surprised me at first with her readiness to accept the men in her life but as the story progressed, her character strengthened and I have to say that her bravery was stunning.

Colters' Woman grabbed me from page one and refused to let go until I read the last word. This story of three lonely men and one lonely woman just worked for me. I haven't recovered yet and still am thinking about this marvelous story. Grab the ice water and get a fan, because this baby is HOT!! When a book still affects me hours after reading it, I can't help but joyfully recommend it and I fully recommend Colters' Woman by Maya Banks!

2.0 out of 5 stars Not quite the women's fantasy I thought it would be., May 28, 2010

This review is from: Colters' Woman: Colters' Legacy, Book 1 (Kindle Edition)
After always hearing about men's fantasies of being with more than one woman, I saw this book about a woman being with 3 handsome men and thought I'd give it a try. It is not quite the women's fantasy I thought it would be. First, Adam, the oldest brother, finds Holly half-frozen in the snow. He takes her inside the cabin, strips her naked, and puts her in a bath, with brothers looking on. When she comes to, she is a bit embarrassed but also thrilled. They never offer to take her to the hospital or even call a doctor after seeing big bruises on her. They never ask if she wanted to call anyone herself. From then on, they drill into her head that she is "the one" for them. When she falls asleep, she is put in Adam's bed, and he crawls in and gropes her while she sleeps. Mind you, this is a hunting lodge with lots of guest bedrooms, yet she is never put in one of those or offered one. She must sleep with one of the brothers from the very beginning. I would have liked it better if she had been given her own room, and she decided when to go into one of their rooms on her own, and which room. Her husband has reported her kidnapped to get the law to help him find her. When the law comes to the cabin looking for her, the brothers quickly lie so they can keep her there, but, by the time the law leaves, she has taken off out of fright of being returned to her abusive husband. The brothers find her and bring her back to the cabin where she stays isolated from everyone but the brothers. She tries to get away again, but they bring her back, telling her she would never make it far without freezing. Of course, they never offer to take her anywhere. When they find out she is a virgin (she ran away on the wedding night), they decide who will be her first. They never leave her alone or give her any privacy, even walking in on her in the bathroom! She gets tired at one point and locks the bedroom door. Adam just breaks in and asks why she locked it. She told him she wanted to be alone. He told her she didn't have to lock the door, and then had sex with her. For all the love they say they have for her, they show no respect for her, they just do what they want and when they want. I lost count how many times they grabbed her by the hair on her head and ordered "on your knees" and used that hair to hold her in place. The really creepy aspect of this book is that it reminds me of cult brainwashing. Holly has been severely abused mentally and physically and is terrified. The brothers find her and say they love her and will protect her. Then, they never leave her alone to think for herself, make all her decisions for her, keep her isolated (they are in the mountains surrounded by snow - she'd freeze to death before she got to the nearest town), and keep repeating how she is meant for them, and they will never let her go! That would be scary to most women. That is also how cults control members: take the weak/scared/injured/lonely, never leave them alone but keep them isolated from outsiders, and drill the cult's ideas into the vulnerable mind until that person comes around.

Holly was also a very weak character. She didn't expressed any ideas of her own and just went along with whatever the brothers said and did. Maybe after her recent abuse, she felt weak. I would have liked it if she had expressed her own mind a time or two at least. Her character should have been given some of her own thoughts other than "tingling" when one of them touched her. It seemed to me that the sex always seemed to be men dominated-woman submissive. Holly seemed to like that, though.

Adam also had anger issues as he seemed to want to kill someone, put his fist through a wall, or tear down the building (the hospital). That is not sexy or "strong", that is scary. Women should run from someone like that. In fact, that is what Holly was doing - running from her abusive husband when she found herself with the brothers. Adam is also the one who told her she was going to marry him without asking which brother she wanted to be legally married to. Most reviewers seem to think she was closer to Ryan and probably would have chosen him, if she had been given a choice.

Even toward the end, Holly was scared to tell them she was pregnant. The brothers told her not to have any more kids (making that decision themselves), then left her with birth control responsibilities. Then they accused her of plotting to get pregnant behind their backs! The only time Holly got mad was over the brothers thinking she betrayed them by getting pregnant.

With all this, why did I give it 2 stars? Creepy factors aside, it did have some good qualities. I did like the character of Ethan as he seemed sympathetic and understanding toward her and tried to keep Adam's temper in line. They did indulge her and take care of her. They did all the cooking and cleaning. As they told her, they are grown men used to taking care of themselves - that is not why they needed her. The brothers actually did end up protecting her, and one took a bullet doing it. And they ran to her rescue as fast as they could. They also ended up making a family with her and having children with her. In the end, they seemed to be very good fathers and protective, attentive, faithful husbands. In a way, this part is a woman's fantasy - hot, great-looking men that cook and clean, are good fathers, sexy lovers, and faithful husbands.

1.0 out of 5 stars Seriously???, April 27, 2009
This review is from: Colters' Woman (Paperback)
I also do not understand how anyone can read this book and give it a 5 star review. I understand that this is erotic fiction but it should at least be some what plausible to retain the interest of the readers. In the first chapter the eldest brother finds Holly in a ditch and brings her to him and his brother's cabin -- believable. They think finding her is fate and she may be "the one" -- okay, also believable knowing they are looking for one woman to share their lives with. It's clear to the men that she is running from someone as she shows signs of abuse, so what does the eldest brother do next? Basically feels her up while she's sleeping, (definitely the G rated description of what happens) and tells her he's looking forward to doing it again!!! Umm, Hello!!! Although Holly did reluctantly enjoy it, it was just a little creepy even for erotica. I could get around the idea of an abused woman finding shelter with 3 male strangers for the sake of plotline, but for the first sexual act to be without expressed consent??? That's a bit much!! So, even before Chapter 2 I knew this was going to be a terrible read. Even the sex was blah -- the scene where she loses her virginity was handled with the tact of a freight train, nothing special. Which is fine if this how you want to write a story, just don't make your lead an abused virgin. The heroine, if you can call her that, was weak and annoying, the brothers, although slightly more interesting, fell flat due to their obsession with her which was never fully explained or truly understood on my part. The story only came alive for me when attempts were being made on Holly's life, and only because I was rooting for the hitman!!! While I respect that she finally stood up for herself in the end, how Ms. Banks had her go abut it was all wrong. Hands down probably the worst book I've ever read.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money, October 31, 2007
This review is from: Colters' Woman (Paperback)
I absolutely love erotica. I buy atleast 10 books a month on EBay so I think I've read quite a bit that's out there. This book was a sad disappointment.

The author would explain what was going on in a scene, but there were no descriptions of what the characters were feeling, how they longed or hungered or were thrilled by what was going on. The heroine certainly got to have sex, but as far as it being sexy, I didn't think so.

I guess it was a lot like watching porn. I could see what the people were doing, but I could not experience any of the joy or excitement they were feeling as that wasn't scripted into the book.

1.0 out of 5 stars WoW It was really bad., January 5, 2008

This review is from: Colters' Woman (Paperback)
I almost never write a bad review but this book was just so amazing bad I find it hard to believe it has so many good ratings. I was recommended this book from Amazon because I purchased and LOVED Mz Banks For Her Pleasure. I find it hard to believe its the same author.

I love menage books and have read every Lora Leigh, Emma Holly and countless Ellora Cave stuff so it is not my lack of comparison books.

The writing in this book is high schoolish. Monotone as if Rainman was telling a story. There is no conveying of feelings or reasoning behind any of the characters. Brother finds girl in snow..she is pretty..his loins throb...and thats by page 7. Girl is wakes in strange bed with strange after running from some someone trying to kill her and her first thought is he is hot..and she tingles?...Seriously?? I am wondering where the publishers or editors were. Writing sex for the sake of sex..it was bad sex too...geesh. Maybe this was a first novel for Mz Banks and the other reviews just hadnt read anything decent prior. This book makes me question any future purchases from this author no matter how much I loved the other book.

1.0 out of 5 stars I must have missed something, October 12, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Colters' Woman (Paperback)
I order my books based on readers' reviews and this one was another total letdown for me. Unfortunately, it was not the first time, so I must become more discerning. The book failed to keep me involved as I found both the plot and the heroes laughable. I read romance books as they offer the fairy tale, the security of the happily ever after and the far fetched circumstances the heroes find themselves in. It's all part of the package, but while I am reading the story I want to be completely engrossed in their world, 'see' them in my mind's eye, care for them even. This requires serious effort from the writer which is obviously not the case in this haphazardly written book where the characters are mere caricatures.

Adam Colter and his two brothers, Ethan and Ryan want to share their lives with one woman as has been the norm in their family for generations. (Why, we are not told but this is a minor detail). So far they have not found a woman they are all attracted to but then Adam finds Holly lying unconscious in a ditch near his house and instantly feels aroused! How perverted and unrealistic is this? He also has this uncanny feeling that she is the one. Don't let us forget that we are talking about a woman who is unconscious and Adam knows nothing about her personal life, unless of course he relies on his infallible intuition in guessing she is THE ONE.

Holly turns out to be a newly wed running away from a despicable husband who is relentlessly pursuing her. How fortuitious to be saved by three hunks who cannot wait for her to recover and have their evil way with her. One of them could not keep his hands to himself while she was unconscious and took the liberty of doing some preliminary gropping and pawing. When Holly recovers she realizes by devine intervention, that she too is attracted to all three men, feeling guilty for having profane thoughts about the brothers. (Try to imagine a person so desperate, running for her life thinking of sex shortly after she recovers from such an ordeal; with three guys no less). They reassure her, however that far from being shocked, they are delighted as it all works out ideally for all four. The best is yet to come. Holly is a virgin but that doesn't stop her from having sex with all three guys at the same time. Despite the fact that it is her first time(!) the brothers take her successively while our girl enjoys the thrill of multiple orgasms. This is just the beginning. It gets worse as there has to be a villain out there so our heroes can live up to their name. Please! Spare me and spare a thought for my intelligence. Grr... I still bemoan the money paid.

I don't enjoy being harsh but I would like some respect as a reader and the way a writer can do this is by being serious and honest with what she writes. The story in this case is written round the sex instead of the other way round. I managed to get through the book only when I decided to read it to see how absurd a story a writer can come up with. Please forgive me but I would rather be honest and spare others like me their time and money.

2.0 out of 5 stars Ewwww!, May 28, 2010
I was intrigued by the idea of stumbling upon three hot brothers that want to love you forever. However, our heroine wakes up in a strange bed with a strange man molesting her. That is not hot. Unconcious sex with a complete stranger is not cool, and why the author couldn't take just a chapter to introduce her characters to each other before the sex started, I don't understand... It got better from there but that first scene left an icky feeling that ruined the book for me.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't expect too much from "Colters' Woman", April 10, 2010
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I'm the kind of person who enjoys reading about people who make choices that I wouldn't necessarily make or agree with as long as I can understand WHY they make those choices. I knew what sort of book I was buying, but what I found disappointing was that the story doesn't tell the reader much of anything about why the Colters do what they do other than this is a family tradition established by their grandparents. Along with the question of why, I also wanted to know if the brothers ever wondered who their real fathers were and if it bugged them just a bit that they'd never know which of their children their potential wife would give birth to. Guess I cared more than they did. ;-) I finally wanted to know how the brothers grew up and how they felt about their unusual situation. Unfortunately, the book doesn't really talk at length about the brothers' history or their feelings on the matter.

I know this is supposed to be an erotic fantasy, but most of it I found totally unrealistic and lacking in plot and emotion. First of all, I just didn't like any of the characters. It's not their fault, really. They just aren't written with any true depth. I never felt like I knew them. Let's see: Adam is demanding, Ethan is kind and Ryan is troubled. Beyond that, who knows? They certainly don't seem like men who need to share anything. Holly is very whiny but at least the reader learns a little more about her. I never felt a strong connection with the quad. Sure, the guys say those three little words yet it is too much too soon and doesn't ring true for me nor does the instant decision that she is THE ONE. The sex scenes are plentiful but not exactly intimate. Even the relationship among Holly and the guys isn't equal. She clearly has the closest relationship with Ryan and doesn't have as much chemistry with the other two, particularly Ethan. I think in real life he would feel a little left out. As far as the plot concerning Holly's evil hubby, it doesn't have any real umph. I had to suspend disbelief with that (and much of the book in general, actually). Especially amusing is the brothers' assertion -- within days of meeting Holly -- that if anyone ever touches her in a threatening way, they'll kill him and that she "belongs" with them. Kinda scary -- were it me, I'd be sneaking out while the trio slept!

"Colters' Woman" is what it is. Don't expect a great plot with a powerful emotional bond. I need more of a plot and that sort of bond so I give the book 2.5 stars. Actually, the brief story, "Colters' Wife," which is included is more satisfying because it explains what happens after the children are born. The author is a first-time read for me. I'm not sure I'd try another story of hers if I had to pay for it without really skimming it first.
