5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the wait
In my opnion, this is the best album to come out from Psychopathic since Mostasteless. Mike P. had nothing to do with this album, which explains why every beat on every song is banging. You could tell Blaze had more fun making this album than he did with One Less G In Da Hood, because for this one he did the music that he likes. Guitars are almost totally absent from this...

3.0 out of 5 stars i never met the dead man
when i was introduced to this guy, i was annoyed with him. he annoyed me. He kept on going on and on and on and on and on about how dead he is to fused guitar beats with everyone on psychopathic all over it....but this..this is agreable. His voice, which sounds retarded as hell is barable, beats are good as hell. ide suggest this over his other stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Long Awaited Colton Grundy, January 7, 2005
This review is from: Colton Grundy (Audio CD)
First of all, let me start by saying I am not going to take Blaze's laziness into account for this review. "Colton Grundy" took Blaze nearly three years to complete, and there is only about 48 minutes of actual music on this LP. I'm going to grade this just like any other album I have in the past.

"Bump This Shhh" jumps right into the gangster rap flavor. As soon as I heard this track, I knew Blaze had finally found his niche. He moves away from the heavy guitar riffs, and into the bass-laden bumpin' beats. The track is Blaze's diss to the mainstream, and he is totally on point when it comes to his criticisms. "Open up your closed mind and you might see - that you care about the music if it sets your soul free," is as deep as deep as Blaze can get, but it sounds cool from a guy with such a hardcore gangsta sound.

"The Touch of Death" is a well-produced second track, and has a more horrorcore-like sound. Blaze tells his story about being a dead man, which we've all heard him do in the past. "Shotgun," arguably the most (original) gangster rap song ever released on Psychopathic Records. I can't explain to you how awesome Jamie Madrox sounds on the hook. "Shotgun-Shotgun - Double-barrelled, sawed-off - stay strapped homie, this shxt is about to pop off! Me I be a G from way back in the day - with that I don't give a fxxk about yo' set type mentality." Esham spits a weak verse on the track, but it doesn't ruin it.

"If I Fall" another awesome track. Lavel and Madrox spit insanely good raps, and Blaze tears it up as well. "Hey You" has some Bay Area influence (the beat), but I'm not a big fan of this track. Blaze is just talking about his bxxches - we've all heard it before. "Stick Ya Hands Up," "Further From The Truth," "Dayz of My Neighborhood," provide for a solid middle. None of these tracks really stand out, but they are all great songs.

Track 10, "Roll It Up," sucks. I'm sorry to say, but I think it is the worst song on the album, even though Blaze says it is one of the "singles" on "Colton Grundy." Blaze is a weak storyteller, and this song just talks about how he smokes weed in a club...lame. "Mr. Dead Folx" is a bangin' hit. Violent J is featured, and he has a great verse to the song. This is definitely one of the strongest tracks on the album. "2 Many Bitches" is another awesome song. MC Breed, a Detroit legend, does the hook, and it sounds great. ABK and Blaze tear the track up as well. "Timeline" is decent, and "Climbing" is an excellent finishing track that features Twiztid, Esham and Violent J.

THis is the best Blaze work to date. The production (split between Fritz, Lavel, and The R.O.C,) is fantastic, Blaze has found his gangsta sound, and guest appearances are balanced out. Pick up "Colton Grundy" and Bump That Shhh!

This review is from: Colton Grundy (Audio CD)
This cd I thought was pretty good. Blaze has some lines that are meaningful but I think he would fit in perfectly rapping to the beats that are fast pacing because I have heard him in some tracks that had the fast pacing beat and he seemed to be able to master it. This cd did have some ups and downs but there were far more ups than there was downs in this one.

1. Bump this Shh-4/5 good start off to the album. Blaze informs that you like what you like and if you never were really interested in his stuff then don't bother.

2. Touch of Death-10/5 Here we go. The fast pacing beat and Blaze masters it. I could listen to this one song 5 or 6 times in a row and never get tired of it.

3. Shotgun-5/5 Awesome track. The chorus was catchy and ABK did a pretty good job and so did Esham. I hear this song will be on some game that's coming out in the future.

4. Etched out in Chalk-6/5 Another really good track. Blaze does it again. Chorus is Awesome.

5. If I fall-3/5 Not really good but not that bad. Blaze did a decent job and tha Shadow did an alright job. If Madrox wasn't in this song it would be fine. Sorry but I don't think Madrox is all that great of a rapper. Anyway it's still ok.

6. Hey you-4/5 Pretty good. Blaze did a really good job lyrically in the verses but the chorus wasn't any good. The reason I gave it a four is because Blaze's rhymes were just that good.

7. Out tha gate-4/5 same as track 6

8. stick yo hands up-6/5 Really good. Blaze was awesome in this one and ABK was alright (ABK doesn't really catch my attention lyrically at all really) The Chorus was great seeing that apparently Violent J was part of it along with Blaze.

9. Further From Truth-2/5 Don't like it that much. Blaze's lyrics were decent but the beat was just too boring and the chorus wasn't really all that great neither.

10. dayz of my neighborhood-3/5 Lyrics were good. Love the meaning to it but again the beat needs to speed up a little bit for it to be perfect but other than that, not bad.

11. Bump it up-7/5 Perfect track. Fast pacing, Really good lyrics and Chorus was really good. More like party music but the lyrics were just too good to not mention about this song.

12. Mr. Dead Folx-6/5 Love this track. Pure gangsta stuff right here. Blaze and J got it locked down in this one. Lyrics, gangsta beat, and chorus were all mastered.

13. 2 many B*tches-4.5/5 This was a HUGE upgrade for ABK. I know I said he really didn't catch my attention lyrically but in this song he was outstanding. The chorus was also catchy but man ABK did a really good job. Blaze was alright but it seemed like he didn't try that hard in this one.

14. Timeline-10/5 Tied for first as my favorite. This was really good lyrically and the chorus was greatness. Great job lyrically by Blaze.

15. Climbing-8/5 This was a really good song starting off with Blaze and then Great lyrics by Esham(smooth as wine his rhymes are) the chorus was pretty good with everyone in this song joining in on it. Madrox and Monoxide are not all that great in my opinion but that's ok because J was up next and he did his thing(good as usual) and Blaze finished it off with what he had to say. Other Than Twiztid this song was great.

Ok so there you have it. I think that Blaze should come out with another album with quicker beats. No doubt that most of these songs were really good but I think that he should have Esham and Violent J on even more tracks or be by himself because he seems to do way better. He proved to me that he has great lyrical skills and he's still got years to go seeing he only made but one or so albums. Anyway I liked what I heard and can almost guarantee I'll like the stuff he'll put out in the future seeing that all he's going to do is get better.

4.0 out of 5 stars EAZY-E would've loved BLAZE !, March 14, 2005
By
This review is from: Colton Grundy (Audio CD)
first off im not a big fan of I.C.P. or the rest of the PSYCHOPATHIC CREW for that matter but i do like BLAZE & ABK! in my opinion these two are the diamonds in the psychpathic rutt! they both have very unique vocals combined with fresh & relentless spitten skillz(especially blaze)that in a very subtle way ripps right through you when you turn the volume dial up. BLAZE'Z new album "COLTON GRUNDY" is one of the best G-rap albums that i've heard in a long time. YA DEAD HOMIE is pure 100% gangsta to the bone! take the vocal's of "MC REN" & "LUDACRIS" smash them together then mix it with some sweet west-coast(RUTHLESS/EAZY-E) style gangasta beats & THE END RESULT IS "COLTON muthaphu**en GRUNDY"! this is a must have for any true fan of the g-rap genre! its not coming out of my cd player any time soon! ENJOY

5.0 out of 5 stars Bout time, October 20, 2004
This review is from: Colton Grundy (Audio CD)
After three years, Blaze finally made another CD. This is his best work by far. Its twice as good as his first LP, and that was the sh*t. Colton Grundy is one of the most solid albums from Psychopathic in the last couple years. The concept is awesome, the lyrics are str8 up gangsta, and the production is amazing. The best songs are: Bump This Shhh, The Touch of The Dead, Days of my Neighborhood, 2 Many Bitches, Time Line, & Climbing. "2 Many Bitches" has the best chorus I've heard since sumthin like the one in "Juggalo Homies." "Climbing" has gotta be the best ending track I've heard since "Darkness" on the Green Book. Several other Psychpathic artists rap on "Climbing" adding more freshness to the already fresh beat and chorus. Blaze exceeded my expectations with this album. The last several years of Psychopathic has brought a lot of weak albums, along with a few stand out ones here and there. I think everything is getting back to normal now though....now that Psychopathic Rydas, Hell's Pit, and Colton Grundy have blown us away. I was gettin worried for a little while but with Colton Grundy out, its obvious that Psychopathic is back on track with kick-ass CDs one after the other. Mad props to Blaze on this very well-done album and I hope Monoxide's solo album comin Nov. 16 will be some more bangin sh*t.

4.0 out of 5 stars Blaze steps up his game..., November 5, 2004
By
This review is from: Colton Grundy (Audio CD)
Before i start this review i'd like to let all the juggalos know that i've placed Blaze as the worst rapper on Psychopathic over the last few years. His debut EP was amazing but his full-length '1 Less G N Da Hood' was very weak and had way to much filler. So, since i disliked 1LGNDH i thought this would be totally worthless...the first sample of the disc i heard was in the way of "10 Bodies" from 'Psychopathics from Outerspace 2!'. At first i thought this track was excellent but after a few listens it just became mediocre. The other track on PFOS2 ("***** Shut Up") was also very mediocre in itself. When it came time for the Sampler to the Colton Grundy album i almost passed up giving it a listen but decided i should at least give it a try before dismissing it...on my first listen to it i couldn't feel where Blaze was comin from at all. The beats sounded mainstream & the portions of the tracks sounded so different then previous Blaze stuff. It sounded like a Cell Block solo disc rather than a Blaze album to me...

So after a few listens to the sampler one song stuck in my head repeatedly (i'll tell you which one later in the review) so i decided to download that track when the album leaked. When i did i still loved the song so i downloaded another track from the sampler and continued until i had the full album.

Let me tell you i never thought the CD in full length would be so damn good until i heard the whole thing myself. Every track has good elements to it & all together its the best Blaze album i've heard so far.

It begins with the intro-type "Pump This S***" in which Blaze defends his album with some straight-up flows towards the haters ("don't tell what to listen to don't tell what to like don't tell what's bangin, off the hook or hella tight YOUR OPINION MATTERS TO YOU").

Next, the amazingly produced "Touch of Death" comes along. This track has nice flows by Blaze but they seem mediocre compared to the rest of the album. Following up this track is the hands down highlight of the album for me. The track "Shotgun" does exactly what its title would do: it BLEW ME THE HELL AWAY! The beat is hard as hell & Madrox murders the chorus with a harder-than-hell type of voice...Blaze, ABK & Esham trade off nice verses during the track too. At the end Blaze does a cool solo thing before the next track.

Following up the best is a just mediocre type track. "Etched Out" seems like nothing more than a failed sequel to its previous track. Blaze barely hits the spot with this track but the beat is ill as hell so i'll give him that. Next is "If I Fall" which at first was no good for me but after a couple more listens became a very good track. Blaze hits it off with this track & so does Madrox in his verse.

Following this up is "Hey You" which in my opinion is the worst song on the album. It has nothing special, the beat is wack & its corny as hell. Blaze shouldn't have put this track on here it almost ruins the experience. Luckily the next cut is the one i've had in my head since i was bumpin' the sampler. Yeah, that's right, "Out Tha Gate" is the track that made me give this album a chance. The beat is hot & Blaze lyrically kills it using only his lyrical skills & no one elses to dominate this track.

Coming up next is "Stick Yo Hands Up" which has a very hot beat but the lyrics are a little below-average. Blaze and ABK do a semi-nice job with their flows but Monoxide should've been allowed more than a chorus here. After this track is "Further From Truth". This dark and grimey track sounds like some of the old-school Blaze i was expecting for the album. It's good, nothing special but decent.

As Track 10 ("Dayz of My Neighborhood") rolls around i'm not sure if i'm disappointed or very happy with the album overall. This track improves my judgement but it sounds too much like a track you would hear on BET...Blaze uses his gangsta/thug rhymes and attacks mainstream rappers over and over again ("some of y'all rapperz wanna be actorz some of y'all actorz wanna be thugz & some of y'all thugz iz fallin' in love wassup u need a hug??"). Same thing with the following track "Turn It Up", it seems like an MTV-oriented party track but the chorus is still stuck in my head so i give it props for that.

The best lyrical track on the disc comes up next with "Mr. Dead Folx" which really showcases Blaze's & Violent J's lyrical abilities. Blaze puts in some hard punches ("Hold my mic to my d**k so you can hear it when i come") amd J adds some nice variety to it. The next track proves to be similar with some hot flows but just from the title ("2 many *****es") it sounds like a Rydas track more than a Blaze track. ABK holds it down lyrically while Blaze does as well.

As the last 2 tracks roll around i'm expecting a grand finale. Unfortunately that's not what i get...i get a mediocre track ("Timeline") and a very stretched-out track that should've only been Blaze ("Climbing"). I guess i respect the message he's tryin to send on the last track but it seems corny & forced for that to be the end song. Also, after waiting around over 2 minutes past the end of the last track for some kind of bonus track all i get is "Y'all still here? GET THE F**K HOME!" and it somewhat pisses me off.

After my first full listen through i'd give the album 4 out of 5 stars for being very good but not perfect. Too many songs lack in areas ("etched out", "touch of death") and too many other tracks just flat-out suck ("hey you", "timeline") so overall the album is labelled as just average.

I give Blaze major props for making Colton Grundy but come on people we've waited over 3 years & in that time ANY other Psychopathic artist (aside from maybe Shaggy 2 Dope) could've made 2-3 albums in that time. People like ABK and Twiztid are busting their asses making albums year-by-year to please the juggalos and Blaze can take his sweet-ass time for 3 years and only give us an alright album? That's not the way it should go.

If you're a juggalo you'll find yourself thinking that this is a Cell Block-ish type album & that it would sound much better if all the Rydas were involved. If you're a mainstream fan you'll be suprised how much of the disc you'll enjoy. It really seems like an album that would fit in with the MTV crowd.

Anyway, that's all from my personal experience.

Favorite 3 tracks are: Shotgun, Out Tha Gate & Mr. Dead Folx.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Dead G Arises, June 18, 2006
By
This review is from: Colton Grundy (Audio CD)
There's been a lot of hate going on about Blaze. Some like to diss cuz he's white, yet claims to be a dead G from the hood. Others just think he sucks.

First off, Blaze Ya Dead Homie is a character. So he's white and says he's from the hood? How bout this one idiots. He's alive but says he's a rapping zombie. It's a personality not reality.

Now "Colton Grundy" is only an alright album. If you wanna hear some really really fresh material, pick up the rerelease of 1 Less G In The Hood. "Colton Grundy" is still a good album but a lot of songs do fall short.

First off it isn't very long. A lot of songs are only 1 or 2 minutes long, which brings down the CD a bit. But there are some really really tight songs on here. "Touch of Death" has an ill sing along hook and is basically about Blaze being dead and all that. "Shotgun" has a really thugged out hook from Jamie Madrox and features ABK and Esham on verses. It doesn't take a genius to wonder what the songs about either. "Stick Ya Hands Up" features Blaze and ABK rappin about the hardships in the hood. "Further From Truth" is talkin bout what it's like being dead. "Dayz N My Neighborhood" tells about Blaze's sadness that the days of the o.g.'s are over and has been glossed over by snitches and that other one that starts with B lol. "Roll It Up" is a story song worthy of Snoop Dogg/Cypress Hill praise. "Mr. Deadfolx" has to be my favorite song. Blaze, alongside Violent J, spit the most lyrical raps of the whole album. "2 Many B***hes" features MC Breed and ABK(who happens to spit a really really fresh verse). "Timeline" and "Climbing" end the album perfectly, the latter being about the ladder you have to climb to get to the afterlife.

The tracks not mentioned are ones I wasn't feeling. Blaze sounded a lot more thugged out in the 1 Less G days but he still sounds fresh on here and there are definitely good songs. Check it out.
