About Columbia's Garment Technologies
This garment is outfitted with Columbia's Omni-Shade and Omni-Shield Blood 'N Guts technologies. Blood 'N Guts is a fabric treatment that's specially designed to resist and wash out liquid stains. The treatment provides two lines of defense. Initial liquid stains bead up and roll off Blood 'N Guts-treated fabric. However, in some cases pressure may cause some liquid stains to penetrate treated fabric. For stains that penetrate the first line of defense, the Blood 'N Guts formula also works to release stains with agitation and soap in the washing machine. The protective benefits of Blood 'N Guts technology may diminish over time due to dirt and wear, but these benefits are easily restored simply by washing and drying your garment between uses. Proper care of your Blood 'N Guts-treated product will help it perform the best when you need it the most.

Columbia's Omni-Shade clothing protects you from damaging UV radiation by blocking the majority of the sun's harmful rays, letting you stay out longer on sunny days. Unlike SPF (Sun Protection Factor)--which is a measure of sunburn reduction from sunblock and protects you from UVA rays--Columbia's Omni-Shade products are far more versatile, combining a tight-weave construction, UV reflectors, and UV absorbing technology. These features not only prevent sunburns and long-term skin damage, but they also protect the wearer from UVB rays in addition to UVA rays. UVB rays are much more harmful than UVA, and are present even on cloudy days. Plus, Omni-Shade doesn't wear off. Instead, your safety increases as the Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) increases. Several layers of Omni-Shade protection are available: UPF 15, UPF 30, UPF 40, and UPF 50-plus. It's like sunscreen, but you don't have to reapply. All Omni-Shade fabric carries the Skin Cancer Foundation's Seal of Recommendation, which is given to sun-protective fabrics that have a minimum UPF of 30.

Features:

  • Construction: 100-percent superlight Blood 'N Guts polyester
  • Omni-Shade sun protection: UPF 50
  • Flip-up sun protection collar
  • Rod holder
  • Quick dry

About Columbia Sportswear
Founded in 1938, Columbia Sportswear Company has grown from a small family-owned hat distributor to one of the world's largest outerwear brands and the leading seller of skiwear in the United States. Columbia's extensive product line includes a wide variety of outerwear, sportswear, rugged footwear and accessories. Columbia specializes in developing innovative products that are functional yet stylish and offer great value. Eighty-year-old matriarch Gert Boyle, Chairman of the Board, and her son, Tim Boyle, President and CEO, lead the company.

Columbia's history starts with Gert's parents, Paul and Marie Lamfrom, when they fled Germany in 1937. They bought a small hat distributorship in Portland, Oregon, and named it Columbia Hat Company, after the river bordering the city. Soon frustrated by poor deliveries from suppliers, the Lamfroms decided to start manufacturing products themselves. In 1948, Gert married college sweetheart Neal Boyle, who joined the family business and later took the helm of the growing company. When Neal suddenly died of a heart attack in 1970, Gert enlisted help from Tim, then a college senior. After that it wasn't long before business really started to take off. Columbia was one of the first companies to make jackets from waterproof/breathable fabric. They introduced the breakthrough technology called the Columbia Interchange System, in which a shell and liner combine for multiple wearing options. In the early 1980s, then 60 year-old Gert began her role as "Mother Boyle" in Columbia's successful and popular advertising campaign.

The company went public in 1998 and moved into a new era as a world leader in the active outdoor apparel industry. Today, Columbia Sportswear employs more than 1,800 people around the world and distributes and sells products in more than 50 countries and to more than 12,000 retailers internationally.

My husband and I recently went on a fishing vacation where the temperatures were over 95 every day and the sun was beating down for hours at a time. My husband already owns a Blood and Guts shirt and while I packed several t-shirts and even tank tops, he chose to wear (and thankfully wash) the Columbia shirt almost every day. The light material was uber comfortable and the long sleeves protected his skin. True to its name, it seems nothing permanently stains these shirts and they are almost dry when you take them out of the washer. Just hang up for 1/2 hour and they are ready to wear. When we returned from our trip, I immediately ordered two shirts for Father's Day. He was thrilled. The shirts are true to size and while they are fishing or outdoor shirts, they are very nice looking and great with khakis, shorts and jeans. Would highly recommend these shirts!

We recently went to Belize and since we were limited on how much luggage we could pact for certain legs of our journey into the jungle by small plane, it was essential that we have light weight clothing that could withstand the hot humid jungle air. This product lived up to ever expectation. It is easy to hand wash and did not carry any odors. Very breathable and the bugs (which there were many) could not bite through the material. Great product.

I bought two of these short-sleeve Blood & Guts shirts 2 years ago and liked them so much that I ordered another 10 in various colors a few wheels later. I wear them daily through the summer, so all of them have now had dozens of washings. They last longer than anything I've ever worn. I recently "retired" two white ones that had faded to a light grey over the years, but all the rest are still in service and look good. These are expensive when compared to competing fishing shirts, but worth every penny when comfort and durability are considered. I want to order more, but can't find the short-sleeve version anywhere. I hope Columbia hasn't discontinued them. GREAT PRODUCT!

Very, very tight weave provides not only outstanding UV protection, but also makes this garment extremely water resistant. I've stayed dry fishing for hours in brutal heat with this shirt in a light rain. Very breathable, incredibly lightweight. Expensive, but this is the most comfortable hi-tech shirt for the money I own.

This shirt is the closest thing to standing naked in the shade, Any breeze passes thru to cool you and it is so thin it stays dry and clean looking the entire day. Anyone in hot weather, dry or humid should get one of these, or better still three...

I bought this shirt to wear when I'm outside doing yard work, or hiking, or even just going to the state fair in the summer. My skin is pretty fair and I tend to get burned easily. I don't like sunscreen, as it makes me feel greasy, so this shirt looked like a great alternative. I was worried that wearing a long sleeve shirt might make me feel too hot, but that was not the case.

The fabric is nice and light, and the construction makes it very breathable. When it is very hot (over 100) in the summer, I found it even better to put on a damp cotton t-shirt underneath. The sun shirt took the brunt of the sun heat, which helped keep the t-shirt cooler for longer.

I purchased an XL, since I wanted it to be a little loose and baggy. I didn't want it to fit too snug on my shoulders or be too short on my torso. I think, though, that I should have bought a L instead. I don't think the size is incorrect or misleading, though. I think I just made the wrong choice. I should have probably exchanged it for a different size.

I recommend this shirt for any guy who enjoys or needs to be outside in the sun but does not want to wear sunscreen lotion.
