I recently ordered this jacket to replace my old Columbia Thunderstorm jacket. In response to Lore's comments about the sizing, per Columbia's website it is an "Active" fit, which seems to be a bit more streamlined and form fitting. I'm 6'2, 225lbs and purchased an XL. I'll say it's not as loose fitting as my Thunderstorm (which is acutally a L), but I don't find I have the same range of motion issues that Lore experienced. Having a little bit longer torso I wish this jacket was available in a "Tall", but still the jacket falls to about the top of my hips, which feels fine to me.

I've only worn the jacket on a couple of occasions so far, but in that short span it was comfortable and easily repelled a light drizzle. Once I have a chance to field test it a bit more I may update, but I assume it will hold up to the same standards of quality as the other Columbia products I own.

As for the exterior chest pocket, I'm a big fan as it comes in handy for storing keys, phones, etc (while keeping them dry) for easy ascess while commuting, walking the dog, etc.

I've read a lot of positive reviews about the Glennaker shell, but if you're looking for a lightweight, packable raincoat with a looser fit, I'd take a look at the Columbia Watertight. It's omni-tech vs omni-shield (which is waterproof vs water resistant), falls under Columbia's "Modern Classic" sizing which lines up more with standard sizing, and comes in extended sizes (LT, XLT, etc).

I considered the Watertight as it seemed like what Columbia replaced the Thunderstorm line with, but opted for the Hailtech II for it's better venting options as well as the fully waterproofed zippers.

I would not recommend this product for cold weather. It is a light rain jacket at best. The Jacket is also cut short at the bottom, while the sleeves are long.

I tried on a new Hailtech II Jacket at a local retailer and was immediately disappointed. I'm medium build, 6 foot tall, and normally take an XL. The sizing scale for this jacket seems wrong somehow, because the sleeves are cut so narrow that I had to use the other hand to pull each arm through. They are tubular, like a sausage, with none of the loose relaxed fit of my old Glennaker. Wearing the jacket zipped up, I tried to lift my arms, and the jacket rode up over my chest. There is not enough material in the small of my back, so if I tried to lift something heavy, it might tear. Furthermore, the front rode up over my gut and looked bad. I am not a small person, so need a bit of looseness in the arms and front, but there doesn't seem to be any slack in the design.

The styling is strange. There is a cell phone zip pocket set at an angle on the front of the jacket with a different colour material. From a distance, it looks like a mistake. I dislike it strongly. I like a clean front. Leave the cell phone pocket inside!

Overall, the jacket looks and feels cheap. It is a joke that they charge more than a hundred dollars. I much prefer the older Glennaker shell, which you can also find here. It is a much better lightweight rain shell for the money. That's my opinion, for what it's worth.

Great jacket, light and waterproof and doesn't have a baggy fit. This jacket fits well and gets the job done, amazing for a wind breaker thin jacket.

Fits well, keeps rain out, is lightweight but also provides decent warmth in cool temperatures. I also get lots of compliments on the style and color (I went with the cinnamon). Would definitely recommend.

Although the torso fit is fine, there isn't enough rooms in the arms to wear even a sweatshirt underneath. I can bend my arms, but not without fear of ripping out the stitches (and my arms aren't the size of Arnold's). I was surprised by this, because all of the other Colombia stuff I've bought has been pretty darned good.

This is a great rain jacket and for the sale price it was a great deal. The only problem is that Columbia keeps discontinuing jackets, this one and the one I had before that fit me like a glove.
