Best folder in its price range,

I expected this to be a good knife, but it's simply awesome! It feels powerful every time I press the thumb stud with my pointer finger and a gentle flick of the wrist and it clicks into place. Robust design comes with a very sharp blade, and i enjoy the security of the safety feature to prevent accidental closure, and it still closes up just as fast as any other folder. Also pleased with the smaller sized black I purchased, and i may buy another one of these some day.

This review is from: Columbia River Knife and Tool's M16-13ZER EMT Serrated Edge Spear Point Blade Knife (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is one of the few models of liner lock knives that doesn't have a blacked-out, menacing "tactical" look that seems to be all the rage these days. Instead, it sports a nicely-polished, partially-serrated blade made out of quality 1040 stainless steel that folds into a very un-weaponlike, bright orange Zytel handle that is durable, lightweight, and easy to grip. The usual CRKT features are here also, those being the Carson flipper, which allows extremely rapid one-handed opening; the Auto-LAWKS feature, intended to prevent accidental blade closure, and not insignificantly, the hefty thumb studs on the blade. These features make this one of the most ergonomic and usable single blades you can get, which explains the considerable popularity of CKRT folding knives among service personnel. They're like the Glock of knives--foolproof, rugged, and largely made of plastic.
If there is one downside to this knife, it is its size, which is pushing the limits of practicality for pocket carry.

I first got this knife while in the Marines, I used for everything from field ops to hunting, it never failed me. I finally had to buy a new one and I still love it. The Carson flipper is great for opening the knife quickly and one handed. The one major difference from the older version I had is that the little switch which locks the blade in place when open now automatically engages itself. This knife is a great everyday carry that I don't notice at all anymore.

Great knife, this is my second one, I lost the first one because I never leave home without it. Very sharp right out of the box, no touch up. Extremely fast one hand open with a top mounted Carson flipper, easy one hand close also. Holds an edge forever. Small enough so you can't feel it in your back pocket.

As far as knives go, I'm no pro. But I do know what I do and don't like. I knew that even though I was dying to get an assisted spring opening knife, that is counted as a misdemeanor in California, just as bad as a switchblade, so I settled on leverage actuated. I couldn't be happier.
This knife is downright pleasing to look at, and to use is even more of a bonus. It operates easily with one-handed opening, and the Auto-LAWKS technology is awesome. I have never felt so safe with a folder open in my hand. It's nice looking, sharp as hell right out of the box, and is the perfect length for an everyday carrier. The color is pleasing to me and looks like it will stand up, and the clip is the right snugness. Contrary to what others say, I find it quite easy to close one handed, and can already do it slightly fast. With more practice it will be come natural. Thanks CRKT for a great quality product, does everything it's supposed to.

This knife is sharp...very sharp. This knife works. By that I mean...it flips out when you need it to open. It locks with precision when you need it to lock. The orange handle is genius. Since I use this knife outdoors...I can find it when I drop it on the ground. I own six of these M16s. Orange, Black, Red and Camo handles. I keep one in the truck, house, car, fishing vest, hunting pack. Feels great in smaller hands. Cuts like a razor. Great design.

I've been looking for a knife pretty much like this and thought that I had finally found one. Unfortunately, it has a dubious safety feature named "LAWKS". Having owned linerlock knives for longer than I care to remember, I have yet to have one fail on me. I'm talking everything from $300 USA Benchmade's to $15 Chinese Smith & Wesson's. None has ever failed on me. EVER. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I doubt it. I simply make sure that the lock is engaged before using the knife. That's simply common sense. Trying to idiot-proof a perfectly good product should tell you what the manufacturer thinks of its customers. For some reason known only to themselves and their advertising agency, CRKT felt it necessary to add a gimmick that will probably result in more injuries than it prevents. Closing a liner-lock knife should be a one-handed operation. At least it always has been so for me. Sometimes the knife requires a "break in" period to loosen up a little, but this is not exactly high-tech stuff. Add a drop or two of oil to help the process along and a well-made liner-lock should be very easy to open and close with one hand. Yet, CRKT is turning the closing process into a decidedly two-handed operation for no reason at all. The liner-lock on the M16 series is just fine without this LAWKS gimmick. I've tried pretty darned hard to make the lock fail with LAWKS disengaged and never even came close. When I have the time, I'm going to be removing the LAWKS pin and could not care less if it voids the warranty. If it wasn't for LAWKS, this knife would have gotten five stars. The clip is well-designed (if a little tight) and set up for tip-down carry which is what I like. The flipper is a little on the large side with heavy knurling which is ideal for use with gloves. Although AUS4 is not the greatest steel, it takes a good edge and is easy to sharpen. Unfortunately, it does not hold its edge as well as some better steels. All in all, I think that this is a lot of knife for the price but CRKT really needs to lose the LAWK gimmick. Edited 10/26/11: I decided not to remove the LAWKS pin. I've gotten used to it and have gotten the hang of closing the knife one-handed. Personally, I don't care for it, but I still feel that it's more form than substance.

I bought the knife for my brother-in-law for Christmas. All of the guys in his family were jealous. It's a great looking knife. Like the previous reviewer, I'm tired of the blacked-out look and the polished blade with black handle is boring.
The knife has some great features that were already mentioned. My favorite feature of this and other CRKT knives is the Auto Lawks. I have a Gerber that nearly cut my finger off because the knife folded while I was cutting. I liked the knife so much that I bought one for myself.

Love this knife. It is my first CRKT and I couldn't be happier. Carry it everyday and has not needed to be sharpened yet! To be fair, most of the work it does is opening boxes. It is a bit longer than what I thought it would be, but clips in my pocket well and I don't usually notice it. I do have to be carefull of the clip though as I have scratched my car squeezing in when someone parks to close.

I first saw this knife at REI for $60 so when I found it here for almost half the price I jumped on it. It came yesterday and I have caused a blister messing around with it so much. Has a great ergonomic feel in my hand. Blade flips out super quick and easy. The saftey mechanism gives me that added trust that the blade wont fold back on me. The "Desert Tactical" camo leaves a little to be desired but overall I really like the look.
