Product Description

Designer Ray Kirk has put his spin on the concept of an emergency strap cutter with his new K.E.R.T. (Keying Emergency Rescue Tool). Now you can have a razor sharp seatbelt cutter always at the ready hanging on your key ring. This nifty little tool also excels in cutting webbing, or fibrous materials, when needed. It features a screwdriver, oxygen tank opener, bottle opener and 1/4" hex wrench. This is a pocket sized tool that is designed to make your life easier, maybe prevent a headache or two and perform necessary emergency tasks. The K.E.R.T. comes with a form fitted vinyl slip-sheath. Don't be caught unprepared, stay safe and put one on your keychain today.

I bought this as a key ring tool for work. Upon its arrival it went onto my personal key ring! The design and build is excellent and the screwdriver/pry tip works great. I've cut several seatbelts during our extrication drills this year and it zips through them like a hot knife through butter. The only thing that kept it from getting five stars is the key ring itself - it would be much better served with a braided cable type ring to give better strength when pulling.

This turned out to be much more useful than I expected. It's quite a bit easier to cut certain things with a hook cutter than a knife. For example, if you have to cut a tie wrap or a rope that's wrapped around something, it's much easier to grab it with the hook and pull, than to insert a knife carefully and gingerly lift upward, hoping that when it cuts the knife won't suddenly jerk and hit someone.

In fact, what's really nice about this hook cutter is that it's almost impossible to hurt yourself with it. You could *probably* hurt a baby's fingers, but even a child's fingers won't fit in. And even if it slips, it's not going to do any damage. When my kids have needed to cut off a wristband or a tie wrap, I can just hand it to them.

Since it's so small, it's easy to carry with you, and quite handy for something as trivial as the recalcitrant bag of chips or whatever--just yank it out, take one quick swipe (no careful positioning or worrying about safety), and the annoying bag is open. It's pretty easy to clean, too--no crevices to get food stuck in, easy to wipe clean and dry--so I am much more inclined to use this on food items than I would be a pocketknife. (But you probably don't want to keep it in a dirty pocket if you're going to do that.)

You can even use it for opening boxes or blister packages, if you can get the hook where you need to cut. This is significantly easier with the K.E.R.T than with some other hook cutters, because the outside of the hook is significantly narrower and comes to a point. It would be hard to puncture a blister package with that point, but it's great for widening an opening.

This tool works great for my needs. I don't use the O2 wrench and I haven't used the bit driver yet but build quality seems excellent and the seat belt cutter (I use it to open packages) and bottle opener work great.

much heavier than its overall size would suggest... it IS advertised as a 'key ring' tool and I don't consider something a 'key ring' tool just because there's some kind of a ring included.... it needs to be small and light... 'check' the former, 'fail' the latter...
also, for some reason mine arrived heavily magnetized...inadvertently, I killed one of my tiny button compasses by placing this thing next to it.... then - as a test - I touched it to a safety pin and it picked the safety pin up...

the tool itself has a good concept along with that stretch 'sheath', imo better design/function than a large majority of many similar keychain tools out there.... but it needs to weigh half as much...

that huge 'o'-ring btw is also on the heavy side, has a huge magnetic signature [mine wasn't magnetized per se like the tool itself was but the ring will affect a compass' needle from quite a distance - around8" away] and it's simply too large for typical keyset//keychain....it comes unattached to the tool itself so there's a little less potential aggravation than if one would need to take it off...

if the tool itself were significantly lighter I'd rate it 5 stars most likely....

This thing is awesome! I was tired of my edc including a blade, multi-tool, a flashlight, and so on and so forth. Now I have this bad boy and a streamlight nano on my keychain and I'm good to go! The strap cutter on this guy is sharp, the overall profile is low key. I haven't really run across an O2 tank but I'm sure one day I will. This thing is solid. There are more intensive tasks this thing can't handle but for everyday stuff this gets the job done without me having to bring my entire kit about.

I'm really disappointed with this tool, having purchased it for the hook blade. The one I received is as sharp as a marble. 15 minutes with a diamond file has made some difference, but it is still nowhere near fit for the marketed purpose of cutting a seat belt in an emergency. It struggles to cut a single core of paracord, or a 20mm lanyard tape. Other reviewers have commented that theirs is razor sharp, so I guess I got a bad one. Also, as others have noted, the rubber sheath/shield comes off at the first opportunity.

Not willing to test this on my car seat belts, all I can assure you is that this is dazzlingly sharp on envelopes and makes short work of opening potato chip bags. The actual cutting portion of the edge is tiny and scalloped in on BOTH sides, unlike some that leave the sharp edge closer to your finger or thumb. Highly recommended.

The only thing I didn't like was the keyring stretched out when I pulled on it cutting something.

The sharp edge is in the center, since it is sharpened on both sides, making it almost impossible for you to feel the edge with your finger. It is very sharp and a handy pocket knife to have.
