Product Description

Makes all your other stylish knives extinct. Flavor Acoma's latest folding knife looks like a T-red on stainless steel steroids. The Fossil is one part hard core, one part gorgeous and one part 12,000 pound flesh-eating dinosaur. The Fossil combines the best from designer Flavor Acoma. With styling cues found on his previous Sampan and Caracas models, the Fossil ramps up the artistic flair to create a piece that is clearly Acoma, yet distinctively a new breed of EDC folder. The pocket knife features an IKBS ball bearing system, combined with an opening flipper for silky smooth blade deployment. The flipper turns into a handsome finger guard when the blade is open. A thumb hole cutout in the blade gives you a second option for opening the knife. The handles of the Fossil are stainless steel with a unique hammer finish. The knife locks open solidly with a frame lock. Duo-tone G10 scales add contour and grip to the handle. The pocket clip is tip-up carry only. The Fossil has the beauty of a museum piece combined with the shear muscle of a prehistoric carnivore. The Fossil is also available in a large plain edge version and a large version with a black EDP blade and Jeff Serrations.

About the Designer

Some kids dream of being a ball player. Flavio Ikoma of Presidente Prudente, Brazil wanted to be a knifemaker. In his adolescence he worked on knives of the Japanese sword variety in his father’s shop. Later, he went on to learn metallurgy, work with Ken Onion, and has become a tour de force of innovation. Bringing to market the revolutionary IKBS ball bearing pivot system (with he and Rick Lala) and evolving the classic locking liner with the new ILS Safety enhancement, available from CRKT in the No Time Off knife. Flavio Ikoma has been designing knives for over 20 years.

CRKT Fossil 5471K

In Depth Look

Makes All Your Other Stylish Knives Extinct.

It’s a knife that harkens back to another era. But with a hammered two-tone handle and IKBS ball bearing pivot system, this one will never get old—especially when it comes to cutting tasks.

The Fossil combines the best from designer Flavio Ikoma of Presidente Prudente, Brazil. With styling cues found on his previous Sampa and Carajas models, it ramps up the artistic flair to create a piece that is clearly Ikoma, yet distinctively a new breed of EDC folder.

The knife has a unique, prehistoric look. But it goes through jobs like a T-rex with 21st century teeth thanks to a drop point blade with Veff Serrations that makes any ropes or fibrous materials in its path history.

A one-of-a-kind looking pocket knife, it features the IKBS ball bearing pivot system, combined with an opening flipper the result is blade deployment that is smooth and fast. A thumb hole cutout in the blade gives you a second option for opening the knife. The flipper also turns into a handsome finger guard when the blade is open. In the features department, it’s survival of the fittest.

While the Fossil is hardcore on the inside, it’s gorgeous on the outside. The handles are made of stain-less steel with a unique hammered finish. Contoured multi-colored G10 handle overlays make it look like a gator. But the blade won’t come down and bite you in the open position thanks to a frame lock.

Reach for the next evolution in well-crafted everyday carry knives - The Fossil.

I have gone over this knife with a fine tooth comb. It opens smooth. Fit and finish is excellent. The clip does not interrupt the grip. It feels great in my hand. Very sharp. I like it very much. It is unique and not something you will see everyday.
The other person that did their review...I have no idea they rated it so low. Maybe they got a bad one although I fail to see how. All over the videos and other reviews for this knife. they are good feedbacks. The other guy complains about the

"The scales of which they are so proud have a design flaw such that the very end pokes you like a sharp needle right in the soft part of your palm. Ouch"

too funny. BTW...I hate stock images so check out my pics.

Super knife. This larger of the two Fossils is BIG and HEAVY...really a belt clip or back jeans pocket kinda folder, and because I knew that going in (in spite of the product description) I rate it five stars. It is well designed and meticulously made by CRKT. The one-handed open is smooth as butter and the weight of the blade gives you a very satisfactory "thunk" when flipped open. The lockup is tight. A ball detente keeps the blade closed when folded, but it can still be opened with your fingers if you want (need) to be quiet. The handle fits a man's hand very nicely, and provides suitable grip when wet. The blade is heavy enough for just about anything you want to use it for short of felling trees and chopping your way through jungle terrain, and is sharp enough out of the box except for the anal-retentive among us (count me in that number) who just HAVE to use a stone to finish the edge. I anticipate that with minimal caution with its use and some cleaning and a touch of oil after the fact, it will outlast the owner.

I really can't add much more to what others have said about the knife. What I will say, is whoever wrote the Product Description for these knives on the Amazon webpages needs to be fired...Worst description I have ever read, with incorrect names for the designer and the two other knives mentioned in the description, without bothering to state the dimensions or weight of the individual knife being described.

Don't fault the knife for the faulty write-up, guys! If you can keep your wife from finding out how much you paid for it, you need to get yourself one. On second thought, forget that, get one period...you won't be disappointed.

This blade is an awesome addition to any collection. It has a solid, sturdy feel, and the ball bearing system gives it a smooth deployment. There is no spring or assist, but it glides open and closed with almost no effort. It pleases the eyes and is interesting enough to warrant the purchase. Although it is stout enough for heavy work, it's appearance is too classic and cool to use for much more than showing off and light EDC tasks. I'd buy it again, and may just get the mini version as well because there's not much out there quite this novel without being ridiculous, flashy, or obnoxious. You know what I'm talking about. It's just a well-conceived and executed, classy knife that any serious collector ought to have around. Reasonably priced--a steal.

This is really a great knife, it's flipper design and stainless steel frame make it practical and tough for EDC tasks while the ergonomics, look, and feel make this knife something really different. There are lots of blades that would serve for regular cutting tasks but few that would look this cool doing them. Flavio Ikoma is a designer to watch I look forward to more collaborations with him and CRKT.

WOW! What an beautifully made knife. This is a really well made knife and it's so elegant it goes well with and suit or street cloths. Not to mention this this is sharp. It opens smooth a silk and is easy to pull out of your pocket and deploy quickly. This was my first CRKT knife and I will be buying more of them if this is any indication of there quality.

This beauty has jumped to the top of my favorite EDC rotation, even though I'm not Klingon. What an awesome design combined with the perfect colors and textures! The Veff serrations, pounded metal handle and fossilized-looking G10 scales make it look very warlike and prehistoric. It's also the sharpest knife I've received, especially those serrations. It would make short work of any Starfleet lackey who made the mistake of getting within arm's reach. It's my first CRKT, first Ikoma design, Veff serration blade, IKBS knife, and everything about it is smooth and sleek. The handle is a tiny bit thin, but it feels good in hand, and I appreciate the small but effective jimping on the inside edge of the flipper. Feels very good in the reverse grip as well. I much prefer the profile and versatility of the serrated model over the plain edge model. I highly recommend this knife for its coolness factor!

One of, if not- the best knives I've ever owned or used. The length is perfect to tackel large tasks like gutting and going through bone. Not much stands up to the veff seriations. Yet it still maintains and edge to then skin with. Not to mention, after going through many many cardboard boxes it still stays sharp! The weight of the knife is my favorite aspect and feature. It let's you know there's something in your hand. Like a man's knife. None not those wimpy composit crap type feel
