5.0 out of 5 stars I can't remember how I got along without this
As a Technical Services librarian, I'm constantly looking for a small screwdriver to open a computer case, a little wrench to loosen a laminator bolt, a knife to open a box... But I've been uncomfortable carrying a large multi-tool. I saw this on someone's list of "Tools Every Geek Should Own" and decided to try it. When I first got it, I was surprised at how small it...

3.0 out of 5 stars Almost Useful
The Guppie is an almost useful tool, but falls short. The crescent wrench portion does not open very far (1/2") and so is useful for smaller nuts only. It also has a lot of play in it so that it wobbles and has to be held in tension re adjusted constantly to use. The screwdriver portion is OK but can't get into tight spaces as the bits are quite short. The knife...

3.0 out of 5 stars Almost Useful, July 13, 2008

The Guppie is an almost useful tool, but falls short. The crescent wrench portion does not open very far (1/2") and so is useful for smaller nuts only. It also has a lot of play in it so that it wobbles and has to be held in tension re adjusted constantly to use. The screwdriver portion is OK but can't get into tight spaces as the bits are quite short. The knife appears to be acceptable but I have not used it much to see how long it will hold an edge. The little built in LED flashlight could be useful, I don't know how long it will run on the small battery, but for emergency repair it puts out a reasonable amount of light and is magnetic, so it could be stuck to something metal while you tighten a loose bolt.
In summary, it is cute, but could be better made, especially the wrench.

This review is from: Columbia River Knife and Tool 9075 Li'l Guppie Multitool, Grey/Black (Tools & Home Improvement)
When I first got it, I was surprised at how small it is - but it really is useful! This little gem fits in a pocket very easily, clips to a belt loop, and has lots of useful things attached. My li'l guppy has everything I need, nothing I don't, and it makes a great keychain. Yes, it's a little heavier (like, grams heavier) than a standard keychain, but I don't even notice it. I've given away 4 so far as gifts to people who have totally geeked out on mine the moment they saw it - and that's not counting the several managers at my job who have bought them for themselves. Seriously - you can't go wrong with this tool. I can't recommend it highly enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful small multi-tool at a great price, November 10, 2007
The GUPPIE's most unique feature is the adjustable wrench. You just don't see that feature on multi-tools, at least not at this price range. No wonder the Guppie receive best buy awards. Toss in a sharp knife, a handy exchangable bit screwdriver and the nifty little LED flashlight and you've got one handy compact tool that fits in the palm of your hand. Great value.

5.0 out of 5 stars You'll actually carry this, August 19, 2009

I have bought many, many little tools that promised to change my life and save the world when it all depended on having a small screwdriver on hand... All those tools are in a drawer somewhere while the Li'l Guppie is on my beltloop. This tool is small enough and easy enough to carry around that you actually do. Have a bottle opener, screwdrivers, wrench, and a knife handy, not on your dresser at home where you can't reach it when you need it.

5.0 out of 5 stars great clip knife, November 2, 2008
as an eagle scout, i think this knife fits wonderfully with our motto "Be Prepared." My girlfriend bought this knife for me a few months back, and i can really say, it has been there when i need it. the carabiner like clip allows quick retrieval from a belt loop. the knife is unassuming and not threatening but is tough enough to go through anything after a sharpening. the bits fit nicely and allow quick solutions to when ur just not carrying a bunch of Phillips heads on u. nice wrench for nuts and such, and an LED light that helps you find the screws u drop under the driver seat (if ur anything like me). not as good as a tool kit, but the maybe next best thing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clever and useful tool, May 3, 2009

This review is from: Columbia River Knife and Tool 9075 Li'l Guppie Multitool, Grey/Black (Tools & Home Improvement)
Who is this product good for? I would imagine anyone, but especially for people like me. I am one of those people who need a great number of keys on my person most of the day. This means that rather than have budging and uncomfortable (and then torn) pockets I clip them all to a carabineer and then link that to a belt loop. Because a small knife is always handy I also always clip a pocket knife to the carabineer as well. This is what is so great about this product -- it takes two steps out of the process. I clip all my keys to the Guppie and then link that onto my belt.
Irrelevant of why you are considering purchasing it here are the pros:
- the knife is sharp and solid
- the screw drivers are good
- the wrench is useful for small jobs.
-It's really sturdy.
- A la Office Space, it's got a great bottle opener
Cons:
-It is a little heavy (minor complaint)
- it can be tricky to use the Philips head screwdriver
- It doesn't have a plastic toothpick or tweezers, but I really can't remember the last time I actually used those anyway...

Overall I highly recommend it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Handy, convienent, dont throw away your Leatherman yet., October 26, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I have only had this for a few weeks but have tried to put it to the test. The little flashlight is handy but not quite what I would consider bright, the magnet feature is really handy for holding a few loose screws. The screwdriver inserts seem to be of high quality. I have not tried the wrench yet, but the size range seems limiting (Mountain biking, great), more on that later. The knife blade seems to be fairly high quality.
This is not a tool box. It is small, handy, light, convienent and has some great features. The wrench feature seems limiting, would have nice up to 5/8". No pliers, but that is the point. Small. clip in on your belt, backpack, whatever you carry with you. At some point you will say to someone, "Here, use this.".

Compact but quite usefull. Unique design with an appropriate name given. Only one issue. WHY was this not designed sooner than now.

PS: Makes an excellent gift as well, (was suggested by quite a number of people)

4.0 out of 5 stars Just what I needed, April 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was interested in the knife when I saw it. The knife is everything it says it is. I need it for work and I use it every day. It might not be useful to most people, nice for collectors. The blade is super sharp and easy to open. The wrench only opens to a 1/2 inch, for me it would be allot more usefully at 3/4 inch. All an all it is a heavy knife for it size. It is made of good quality and that my be when it is so heavy. Out side of my job I do not know how most people would use it but the design is very clever. I hope that the makers will make version with a larger wrench and more leverage. If they could cut down on the weight with out losing quality that would be great too. I wold give it 5 stars if it had a bigger wrench but all an all I am happy with it.

3.0 out of 5 stars CRKT "Guppie", March 21, 2011
I've had one of these since it first came out. Generally OK, mostly does what I need it to do. HOWEVER, the flashlight is completely useless. I gave up trying to fix the contact and/or feed it batteries well over a year ago. Unless the light is redesigned, don't count on using it for long. Otherwise a decent product.
