5.0 out of 5 stars Best hiker I own
I can't believe how impressed I am with these Columbia Kaibabs. I tried on a pair of Merrells, North Face, and even purchased a pair of Patagonia's . The Merrells were heavy, the North Face pinched my toes, and the Patagonia's gave me a blister on the back of my heel. My new Kaibab's are light, extremely comfortable (most comfy shoe I own), good looking, and very sturdy...

Great looking shoe but there seems to be a sizing issue with Columbia footwear.
I am traditionally a size 10(US) with all other brands but Columbia shoes seem to be smaller and this one looks and feels more like a size 9. I have size 10.5 on the way and hopefully those fit because I really love the look of this shoe.

My new Kaibab's are light, extremely comfortable (most comfy shoe I own), good looking, and very sturdy. The sole is grippy and awesome. The day after I bought them I went on a 10 mile hike through some pretty rough terrain. By the time I was done my feet felt great. The Kaibab's breathe extremely well and again they are so comfortable. When I got back they were completely filthy caked with mud and dirt. I rinsed them off with a spray hose and let them dry over night. They look totally brand new. By far my new favorite hiker. Goes to show that you don't have to spend a fortune to get a quality shoe.

The other reviewers are right - you need to order at least one size bigger for a comfortable fit. Product looks good - but a lot of inconvenience due to poor sizing.

1.0 out of 5 stars terrible fit !, July 12, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
$10 to try on shoes that wouldn't fit my sisters width . Columbia's my #1 brand ... the shoes I'm wearing right now are Columbia's as are the shorts . But these had such a narrow design it was crazy . Even with the inserts out and the laces loossened well beyond normal , there was no comfort to be had . Don't buy shoes online ... until you feel 'em on your feet , you never know .

I have to thank the other reviewers for one very simple reason. The shoe is too short and one needs to order at least a half or full size bigger. My foot size is 14 Medium, but i ended up ordering the size 15 for this reason. The shoe though is fantastic and i could not have asked for a more comfortable or rugged one. I cannot believe this is a hiking shoe, so light and so comfortable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Looking, Good Value, Sizing Is Iffy..., February 5, 2011
This review is from: Columbia Sportswear Men's Kaibab Hiking Shoe (Apparel)
Ok, I have years of great experience with Columbia hiking shoes, many old pairs still in my closet - they seem to last forever, though the soles will eventually thin out and lose their traction hence my purchase of the Kaibabs. I've always worn an 11 in Columbias and they've all fit fine. But lately their sizing has become unpredictable. I ordered a pair of Columbia Tagori hikers last year and they were terrible and ill-fitting - WAY too narrow and very uncomfortable support. I swore I'd try before I buy next time, but came across a great online closeout price on these Kaibabs and rolled the dice.
First out-of-the-box impression was that they look great. Very clean design, unassuming with some tasteful color accents, good traction footprint. They'll do well on the trail but equally fine as street wear. They're also very lightweight. When I put them on the first time, I had uneasy flashbacks to the Tagoris - these felt really narrow and pretty stiff (granted not as bad as the Tagoris). But the price was so good I wanted to make them work, so I decided to give them a one day trial before returning them. I'm glad I did! To start, I removed the molded insoles and reinserted them to make sure they were properly seated. This helped as one of the shoes felt awkward at first, but it was simply that the insert was off kilter. By the end of the day, the shoes had loosened up a bit and I was confident they'd work long term. After the 2nd or 3rd day they felt great - though I don't have any room to spare. Couldn't pull these off in really cold weather with two pairs of socks! They also offer very firm support, so if you like a looser, more flexible feel these probably aren't for you.
All in all I'm pleased with the Kaibabs. They get 5 stars for aesthetics, weight, and quality but 3 stars for fit as they are still on the small side of their stated size. If you decide to buy 'em, play it safe and order up a half size at least. Great shoe at a great price if the fit suits you.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Pleasant Surprise, November 17, 2010

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Columbia Sportswear Men's Kaibab Hiking Shoe (Apparel)
My LandsEnd shoes finally wore out, and so I checked Amazon for good walking shoes that were durable, comfortable, not too expensive, and with some modicum of style. I also wanted to get them through Amazon Prime, which is a terrific deal if you haven't tried it.

I wasn't specifically looking for Columbia shoes. When I applied all of my criteria, though, these were the shoes that popped up. So I put them on my wish list for a month and thought about it. And then I got them. I think my feet were starting to get really sore.

Anyway, these shoes have worked out better than I really expected. They are much more stylish than I thought they might be from the pictures. They are also very comfortable and well-made. I do have one cautionary note for prospective buyers, though. The shoes seem sized a bit on the snug side. If you buy them, you might want to consider going up a half-size to make sure that they don't pinch. If snug is what you want and deem best for your circumstances, then stay with your current size.

I hope this helps.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fair walking shoes, a little pricey though, June 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased these shoes for myself.
I made my buying decision based on the style of the shoes (I was looking for an alternative to my white leather Nike shoes).
The quality of the shoes is OK (materials, finish, looks), but I guess I paid a bit too much for them.
I probably would search for a different option if I were to make my purchase again.
