5.0 out of 5 stars not just for fishing! September 1, 2011
Color Name:Bright Bluet| Size Name:X-Large|Amazon Verified Purchase
First, I am a woman. Second, I don't fish. Still, I adore these shirts! I bought one in Bright Blue in March and just bought another in a lighter blue (sail blue?) so I don't wear out the first one. Why, you may ask, do I love this men's fishing shirt since neither a man, nor do I fish? Here are some reasons:

1. Colors are really beautiful. You can't tell from the pictures how nice they look in person. The bright blue was more of a deep periwinkle and the lighter one is more subtle, as expected, and really nice. These aren't the boring, flat colors you see so often.

2. Comfortable material that drapes nicely and washes beautifully without using some special cycle or hanging dry. They come out fresh and unwrinkled wash after wash (I am NOT careful about washing clothes so this is great).

3. Fabulous material for hot weather. I bought the first one in anticipation of the terrible summer heat here in TX. I wanted something with sunscreen fabric that wasn't too tight (so I could wear it over other clothes all year round, while cycling or gardening) and this shirt was beyond my wildest hopes! The material is so lightweight and breathes so well that it is comfortable wearing outside even in 110 degree heat with the sleeves down to protect my arms from the sun. In spite of the fabric being so lightweight, it doesn't feel cheap or insubstantial. As a matter of fact, this shirt looks nicer than many expensive men's dress shirts I've seen and it is literally the most comfortable piece of clothing I own!

4. Pockets pockets, pockets!! It's impossible to find women's clothes with useful and plentiful pockets so I really appreciate this. the pockets have velcro or button enclosures so your stuff stays put and because of the wonderful material they don't bulk up the shirt like you might expect. I can't rave enough about the pockets...love them!

5. Packs really well for travel. It folds down to almost nothing and comes out well after being crammed in a suitcase so this is another great thing.

To be fair, I need to list what I don't like about the shirt. I really thought hard and after wearing the first shirt for 6 months, this is all I could come up with:

1. somewhat expensive. This isn't a cheap shirt, which is why I only ordered one at first, but I can honestly say it was worth every single penny!

2. sleeves don't stay folded up very well. OK, when I'm not worried about the sun I hate long sleeves so I often fold up the sleeves and wear them at elbow level. They have a very cool elastic loop on the outside of each sleeve just for this. You loop a piece of fabric through and button it to hold the folded sleeves up. Because the fabric is so soft and drapes so well, the sleeves aren't quite stiff enough to stay folded well. The loop assembly is strong, looks nice and holds well, but the folded up sleeves tend to "unwrap" and you have to adjust them periodically.

Even with that small flaw, I love, love, love this shirt!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great travel shirts, too... June 6, 2010
Color Name:Fossil| Size Name:Large|Amazon Verified Purchase
I've got three of these by Columbia. I found they are a true "Large" (my size) vs. another brand sold by BPS, where I'd have to go to X-Large, which then throws off how the shoulders fall. These shirts have flaps, and if they don't fit correctly, you can look like Batman...like you have a cape. So,these fit true to size.

Besides fishing, I took them on a trip to southern AZ and wore them on desert excursions. Not only did they keep me cool, but I could actually wear the sleeves rolled down, blocking my arms from the very hot sun and prevented burn.

Make sure you check all the colors, as some of the shirts are less expensive than others. Got a great deal here for the beige one.

Shirts are also very light and can be folded into a backpack. If need be, they are easily washed out by hand and dry quickly. I also wore these out to dinner. Not one person even hinted that I looked like a superhero.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Shirt Ever; Note sizing oddity April 10, 2013
By Adam

This is legitimately my favorite shirt that I've ever owned. All the positive reviews about it are spot on.
I mainly wanted to note the sizing of this shirt. I read the reviews and even talked to a friend who owns a different PFG shirt. I am a hair under 6'2" and about 175. In dress shirts, I usually wear a 16 1/2, 36. My arms are pretty long; I sometimes wear an XL in other brands just to get the right sleeve length, so I was hesitant to order the medium, but I'm glad I did. It fits me perfectly. The torso and sleeve length is spot on. Buy this shirt; it's the bomb; just buy the right size!

Designed specifically for anglers, Columbia's lightweight Tamiami II men's long-sleeve fishing shirt is ideal for longer trips. The Tamiami II is made of quick-drying polyester, which stretches confidently as you move. This gives you an enhanced range of motion that's key when casting. The shirt also employs Columbia's Omni-Dry technology, which helps the fabric wick away moisture as you sweat. This keeps the shirt fresh and odor-free over multiple wearings. Other features include mesh-lined cape vents at the back shoulder, which provide maximum airflow and breathable comfort; deep pockets at the front chest for stashing gear; a rod holder for hands-free convenience; and button tabs for rolling up and securing the sleeves.

The Tamiami II's Omni-Dry fabric helps wick away moisture as you sweat.

About Columbia's Omni Technologies
This garment is outfitted with Columbia's Omni-Shade and Omni-Dry technologies. Columbia's Omni-Shade clothing protects you from damaging UV radiation by blocking the majority of the sun's harmful rays, letting you stay out longer on sunny days. Unlike SPF (Sun Protection Factor)--which is a measure of sunburn reduction from sunblock and protects you from UVA rays--Columbia's Omni-Shade products are far more versatile, combining a tight-weave construction, UV reflectors, and UV absorbing technology. These features not only prevent sunburns and long-term skin damage, but they also protect the wearer from UVB rays in addition to UVA rays. UVB rays are much more harmful than UVA, and are present even on cloudy days. Plus, Omni-Shade doesn't wear off. Instead, your safety increases as the Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) increases. Several layers of Omni-Shade protection are available: UPF 15, UPF 30, UPF 40, and UPF 50-plus. It's like sunscreen, but you don't have to reapply. All Omni-Shade fabric carries the Skin Cancer Foundation's Seal of Recommendation, which is given to sun-protective fabrics that have a minimum UPF of 30.

Omni-Dry is the ultimate moisture-management technology for the outdoors. Its superior wicking properties move moisture away from the body and helps sweat evaporate. During physical activity, increased body temperature causes perspiration. Normally this results in damp, clammy, and uncomfortable (not to mention unattractive) clothing. With Omni-Dry clothing, however, moisture is quickly wicked up into the fabric and away from the wearer's skin. The moisture then spreads out across the surface of the fabric and quickly evaporates. This wicking/evaporation process keeps you cool and the clothing dry. This not only helps regulate your temperature, but it also prevents chafing and keeps you comfortable all day.

Features:

  • Construction: 100-percent polyester
  • Omni-Dry advanced evaporation
  • Omni-Shade sun protection, UPF 40
  • Mechanical stretch
  • Rod holder
  • Button down collar

About Columbia Sportswear
Founded in 1938, Columbia Sportswear Company has grown from a small family-owned hat distributor to one of the world's largest outerwear brands and the leading seller of skiwear in the United States. Columbia's extensive product line includes a wide variety of outerwear, sportswear, rugged footwear and accessories. Columbia specializes in developing innovative products that are functional yet stylish and offer great value. Eighty-year-old matriarch Gert Boyle, Chairman of the Board, and her son, Tim Boyle, President and CEO, lead the company.

Columbia's history starts with Gert's parents, Paul and Marie Lamfrom, when they fled Germany in 1937. They bought a small hat distributorship in Portland, Oregon, and named it Columbia Hat Company, after the river bordering the city. Soon frustrated by poor deliveries from suppliers, the Lamfroms decided to start manufacturing products themselves. In 1948, Gert married college sweetheart Neal Boyle, who joined the family business and later took the helm of the growing company. When Neal suddenly died of a heart attack in 1970, Gert enlisted help from Tim, then a college senior. After that it wasn't long before business really started to take off. Columbia was one of the first companies to make jackets from waterproof/breathable fabric. They introduced the breakthrough technology called the Columbia Interchange System, in which a shell and liner combine for multiple wearing options. In the early 1980s, then 60 year-old Gert began her role as "Mother Boyle" in Columbia's successful and popular advertising campaign.

The company went public in 1998 and moved into a new era as a world leader in the active outdoor apparel industry. Today, Columbia Sportswear employs more than 1,800 people around the world and distributes and sells products in more than 50 countries and to more than 12,000 retailers internationally.
