These envelopes are just what I was looking for. Some features:

1. They are stiffer than ordinary envelopes, due to the use of 24-pound paper. This makes them lie flat and noticeably enhances the look of the envelope, as well as the feel.

2. They have a nice, professional-looking and -feeling finish.

3. Though they have a security tint, this is not apparent from the outside of the envelope because of the thicker paper.

4. They are far harder to look through than ordinary envelopes because of the security tint / pattern as well as the increased opacity.

5. The glue holds quite well. (Unlike another reviewer, in my testing the envelope tore when I attempted a slow peel-open.)

6. They print well.

7. The flap extends to the corners on the back of the envelope (I am nitpicky, perhaps, but I much prefer this standard look to a straight line or similar, as you find on self-adhesive designs).

8. They are so cheap, at 4 cents per envelope, that anyone can use them for just about any purpose except perhaps mass mailings without worrying about the cost. (In other words, while they're not the cheapest you can buy, they're close enough so as probably not to matter.)

In summation, I really like these envelopes and will continue to use them for my business and at home. Just about the only drawback I can see for anyone would be the fact that you have to moisten the envelope. Personally, this doesn't bother me (but I continue to hope for the release of better-tasting glue, perhaps something in "beef teriyaki" instead of "generic sweet quasi-mint").

Product description at the top says "self seal" so I was expecting one of those sealing strips covered by a length of paper, where you pull the paper off and stick the newly opened sticky substance onto the paper. The reality is much different; they already have some "stick" substance attached on either flap (or at least they are supposed to). Either because the product has waited too long in stock or because it was poorly designed (with regards to the sticky substance) the flaps on my envelopes are always loose. Even when you tighlty press the two edges, the flaps come loose after a very short period of time. Not only can you not use these envelopes for anything that requires discretion or security, but also you can't use it to mail anything to someone either. Unless, of course, you buy some glue and glue the flaps together...... Which takes away the whole point of "self-seal" in the first place. For a product that costs $11 and requires you to glue the flaps if you want them sealed, this is a very bad choice in my opinion.

IN A NUTSHELL: STANDARD SIZE - WELL-MADE - EASY TO USE - COMES IN GOOD BOX

These envelopes are a little bit pricey, but they do accomplish what one needs a #10 security envelope to do;

1]- They are made of relatively heavy paper and reinforced where something like a check might be within the envelope.

2]- They self-seal, which for me is a very big deal, as I usually either get them too wet or I cut myself, if I have to seal them myself.

3]- They come in a nice box, which I usually give to one of my kids when its empty. It keeps them thinking about re-cycling.

4]- I can pick them up at Office Depot and avoid shipping this item.

BOTTOM LINE: A REAL NO-BRAINER -- JUST CAN'T GO WRONG HERE!

An excellent product that it is very easy to take for granted.

You totally need to use glue to seal these, the existing glue is very weak. They can be unsealed without ripping the paper, making it easy for contents to be stolen. Would never buy again.

You won't necessarily know if someone re-opens, peeks inside, and closes these Columbian-brand envelopes: the envelope flap self-sealing closures are only twice as sticky as Post-it notes.

Next time, I'll buy Mead, LePage, or Quality Park #10 security envelopes.

Likes:
• sticky adhesive stays closed
• security pattern
• full-size envelope
• dual flap design
Dislikes:
• you have to make sure that you press the adhesive closed firmly otherwise it can open back up
• depending on the type of mail that you are sending sometimes it can be a little challenging to fit it in the envelope because of the dual flaps instead of just an open top

Overall:
when I was shopping around for envelopes I needed something that was full-size and self-adhesive. I guess the better word is self-sealing. My needs were met with the Colombian number 10 self seal security tinted envelopes. Some people have complained that the adhesive doesn't hold, and that’s very possible if you don’t press firmly enough. I've even tried stuffing these envelopes full and the adhesive still is able to hold. As far as how transparent the envelopes are… You really can’t see through these. I tried holding them up to the light when I had a check inside and I wasn't able to see anything. Like I noted above, sometimes it can be challenging to fit certain types of mail into the envelope because of the dual flap design. So when you’re considering buying these envelopes, think about the type of mail you’re going to be sending and if it will be a problem not having a top opening envelope.
