5.0 out of 5 stars Spock meets Columbo..will logic defeat the rumpled raincoat?, May 19, 2000

Fantastic. Columbo takes on Leonard Nimoy, who plays a malicious cardiac surgeon. The murder is inventive and diabolical. There are numerous scenes to enjoy in this one, especially Columbo's arrival at the scene of the crime, wherein he shells his hard boiled egg on the murder weapon!

4.0 out of 5 stars One of Columbo's greatest duels, December 9, 2001
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Columbo: Stitch in Crime [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Shirl Hendryx's superb script sets our hero the task of saving an ailing doctor from being killed on the operating table by his ruthless protege, the latter attempting to grab all the credit for a revolutionary new surgical drug they are developing. A pair of eerie operating-theatre sequences, a startling moment in which Columbo threatens his suspect somewhat less obliquely than usual, and a brilliantly clever resolution that's saved for the final frame, all combine to make this a good candidate for the title 'Columbo's Best Ever Case'.

The Columbo series represented the best in TV entertainment. The episodes are timeless, always great to watch. Too bad there are no reruns on TV right now.

5.0 out of 5 stars SEASON TWO, EPISODE SIX, May 24, 2007
By
Daniel S. "Daniel" (Geneva, Switzerland) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Columbo: Stitch in Crime [VHS] (VHS Tape)
The sixth episode of this second season, A STITCH IN CRIME, was broadcasted on Feb. 11st, 1973. It's also possible to watch this episode in the DVD standard by purchasing Columbo - The Complete Second Season. This is the second Columbo episode directed by Hy Averback after Columbo: Suitable for Framing. It's also the second time that Anne Francis appears in the serie after her role as Valerie Bishop in Columbo Collector's Edition: Short Fuse.

In this episode, Lt. Columbo must investigate the murder of a nurse who was about to denounce Dr. Barry Mayfield. Mayfield (Leonard Nimoy), during a surgical operation, had sewed with a wrong suture the aortic valve of his colleague Dr. Edmund Hidemann (Will Geer) with the hope that Hidemann would die a few days later. Two scenes of A STITCH IN CRIME will undoubtedly stay in my memory. Firstly, the scene showing the effects of a drug injection on Harry Alexander's mind and, most of all, Columbo's fit of anger against Mayfield. This was the first time we could watch Columbo losing his temper.

A VHS to keep in your library.

This is one of the best "Columbo" TV movies ever produced. It has a great cast, especially Leonard Nimoy as Dr. Mayfield, and the plot and storyline keep you interested throughout. Very well done.
