There are many books on Columbus but none surpass the quality of the writing and the way the authors lay out the history of the great discovery including what led Columbus to his decision to sail west into an unknown sea. His dealings with Spain's royalty and his later misfortunes are put in context with the times he lived in. A real pleasure to read.

Beautiful book, deeply researched and illustrated inspirational journey for the armchair adventurer. I only wish the DVD of the original series was still available.

Incredibly enough, 500 hundred years ago a sailor ventured into the big ocean against all odds and in spite of many limitations. I find C.Columbus awesome and his story a fascinating tale of valor and enterprenurship. Can you imagine? 500 hundred years ago Columbus and his crew ventured into the unknown on three ships that easily could fit into an olympic size pool, with nothing more than a sextant and a rudimentary compass. Nowadays, we don't even leave the safety of our homes without our cellphones. We think twice to travel around without a GPS guiding system..... Go figure!! HORRAY COLUMBUS!!! This great book is a well deserved tribute to my favorite explorer!
