5.0 out of 5 stars Fruity, smooth, rich
The best EVOO under $40. We live in the Bay Area where there are tons of artisan producers of EVOO and this stuff is by far the best in its price range. There are better ones for 50+ for this size but this oil has a smooth taste, silky in texture and a wonderfully fruity and fresh bouquet and taste. Your mouth will definitely love this! 2.0 out of 5 stars Not to my taste
I bought Columela because it had gotten such praise from other reviewers and on other websites. I did a blind taste test of the Columela against my favorite olive oil from O&Co, which is, admittedly, somewhat more expensive. I did not like the Columela. My bottle does not have a fruity taste. Instead, it is somewhat bitter, and I found the taste somewhat unpleasant...

I wanted to try this after I saw it won an America's Test Kitchen taste test, then I had a blind taste test for my boyfriend with some plain bread. He noticed a huge difference in taste and fragrance - this one compared to a supermarket brand I usually use, Bertolli, was much fruitier and actually tasted great, and the Bertolli has a slight but unpleasant aftertaste, and not much olive flavor. I was surprised how much we noticed the differences in flavor, this Columela was easily so much better.

It was impossible to find in any store, so I'm very happy that Amazon has it, and it arrived quickly and very well-packaged.

5.0 out of 5 stars A delight to cook with and a delight to taste., July 4, 2009

I have been extremely happy with this Columela oil! I use a tremendous amount of olive oil in my cooking and I do cook a lot for a lot of people. For the price, you simply cannot beat this product. Now I will be the first to admit that you can spend quite a lot of money and buy oil that is far superior to this particular product, but let's face it, in these days and times, cost is a factor!

I would strongly suggest that you purchase a couple bottles of this oil and then a few various brands at your local supermarket and make a taste test. You will be absolutely shocked at the difference. There simply is no comparison. This oil has a full taste and the fragrance is wonderful. Unlike many of the supermarket varieties, you will find this Columela does not leave that particular yucky after taste you so often get.
I have shopped and shopped and have been unable to find this product in any store in our area (gulf coast) and have also checked several story in a few larger cities on the west coast...no luck! Amazon is indeed doing us a big favor in offering this brand.

We cook a lot at our house and are very picky about olive oil. I recently purchased this olive oil under the recommendation of Cook's magazine. It is very good with a very light taste and is also priced well.

Olive oil is delicate and floral with a pepper kick at the back of the throat. I don't use it for everything. This is not a general use Olive Oil. Rather, it is the cherry on the sundae. It is perfect for the final accent, dipping bread, or other use which features its fantastic light and floral taste. Will be ordering again. Yum.

Pronounced olive flavor with lovely herbaceous undertones. Tastes good by itself and leaves no aftertrace of bitterness on the tongue. Even though the percentage of acidity is not stated on the bottle (it sure would be nice if companies were obligated to put this on the label), it is obviously low in acid which is a desirable quality in good olive oil.

I would recommend.

I have purchased olive oil from all over the world, literally. Spain, Italy, Greece, etc. Columela is a big favorite of mine. Expensive, sure, but you get what you pay for in this case.

I will also recommend Paesano from Italy, unfiltered, grassy, pungent, peppery too. About $14.50 for a whole liter, much better price, try it too.

This Columela olive oil tastes like it must have crack in it. It is so damn good that my inclination is to drink it straight out of the bottle while the pasta is still cooking!! Columela is too expensive to do an every day stir-fry, but it is BY FAR the best EVOO that I have found for "fancier" pastas and meals.

Fast shipment, and the bottles were very well protected. You've got yourself a repeat customer.

The best EVOO I've ever tasted. Try THIS with your dipping spices - you'll never go back to the cheap stuff...

I bought this because of Cooks Illustrated and do not regret the decision. I use it less for sauteing and more for salads and dipping, but when I do use it for sauteing it works well. It is really good, tastes clean with a real nice olive taste.
