5.0 out of 5 stars Exciting! Exciting! Exciting!
Cayenne hires a half-breed (Maverick) to escort her thru wild Indian territory so she can get back home to help her father save his ranch. The book reveals it's secrets early on! There are no mysteries to the connection between the characters. However, the book is filled with more excitement than most any other book I have read! Cayenne and Maverick escape one...

3.0 out of 5 stars VERY DARK STORY!
There are several brutal rape scenes in this story, so if you are sensitive to that you will want to pass on this book. A lot of anger and hatred, but several romance scenes as well. Personally, I like a story where I can really like the "hero." But you can't really enjoy this guy. He's angry and vengeful from start to nearly finish.
Also, there are several pages...

There are no mysteries to the connection between the characters. However, the book is filled with more excitement than most any other book I have read! Cayenne and Maverick escape one dangerous situation after another...barely excaping with their lives each time. The excitement keeps you on the edge of your seat with each page. Georgina Gentry never ceases to amaze me with all the detailed history she puts in her books. There are several major historical events built around this story! If you like excitement...this book is for you!

4.0 out of 5 stars The real Comanche, July 16, 2008
By
This review is from: Comanche Cowboy (Paperback)
Cayenne, fiery red head Texan whom idolizes Jeff Davis, uses her body to seduce Maverick, half Comanche gun slinger who hates Comanches and admires Sam Houston, in order to save her disabled papa's ranch from some rowdy bandits after the defeat of the South and in the middle of great Indian plains war.
I love Georgina Gentry because she uses real history and puts so much research in her novels; it seems like you are really there, so realistic. I found myself crying several times during the book and I adored the way she vividly conjured Quanah Parker (not many authors respect and realistically portray Native Americans the way Ms. Gentry does). In my opinion the only down side was the character's dialog. I don't know; Maverick just did not do it for me. But don't get me wrong there is plenty of action, sizzling romance, and intrigue because secrets just keep revealing. I also felt it was a little one sided and the historical reason the Comanche were so brutal should have been included in this book. One "bad" Comanche stands out in this book as the devil of Indians, people such as myself who know the history of Comanche Nation understand his reasoning and I could not help but sympathize and understand his tactics however brutal they may seem to those living in our time.
This is a good book for anyone who really knows history; if you do not understand the irony of stating that the main characters heroes were Davis and Houston, and you don't know who Quanah Parker or Bat Masterson were then this is not the book for you; stick with the unresearched not really touching history theme because this one might be a little out of your league. As I said this is realistic; killing, war, rape, and finally a story that realistically creates a sweet girl's first time with a rough and sexy cow boy, lets just say she doesn't climax on the first go around...

Also, there are several pages in the book that you can totally skip without losing the story at all... because the author goes into way too much of the life memories of characters who are not important to the story at all.
If you can find a cheap used copy, give it a swing. But don't hope for too many happy feelings while reading it.
